Bear grew up in the Isle of Wight in the UK. Bear spent three years with the British Special Forces. Part of this time was spent in southern Africa, with the anti-poaching effort. While parachuting there his chute didn’t open and he crashed and broke his back in three places. After three years of rehabilitation, and hiked Mount Everest. With this climb, he became the youngest British climber ever to reach the summit of Mount Everest and return alive. Bear wrote a book about his adventures “The Kid who Climbed Everest” which became a bestseller. Bear lead a team across the North Atlantic Arctic Ocean in a small open rigid inflatable boat in 2003. In 2006 Bear started filming a show for both the American Discovery channel and British Channel Four. He lives on a private island off the coast of Wales with his wife and their two children.
