The episode opens with a bunch of women – The Amazons - dancing around a fire and chanting at night. The scene quickly switches to a boy and girl frolicking through a clearing. They are obviously in love as the situation switches to more mature in nature. A girl is stalking them and later they are confronted by a group of apparently ticked off villagers who have been tracking them.

The boy screams at a man named Castrone, telling him that he cannot govern love, but Castrone replies that he does govern Macodia and that he can decide who marries. As the couple tries to make a run for it, the girl is captured and the boy is slaughtered by axes in the field (nauseating sound effects, by the way). Castrone says that the girl is to die in “The Pit.”

The girl who had been watching this happen returns to the Amazon camp and tells the leaders what she witnessed. The leader gets a distraught look on her face and commands her Shape Shifter to find where they have taken the girl.

After the credits, we see a Shaman looking into a desert valley as Maleena is carried in and laid next to skeletons to be fed to the beasts of the wild. Sharak is flying overhead and reports back to Dar and shows him Maleena being bitten by a poisonous snake. Tao and Dar run off in her direction.

After they arrive, they release Maleena and as Tao covers her with a blanket they see her snake bite. As they carry Maleena out of the valley, they discuss that the only known cure for the bite (a three fanged bite) is the bud of a water blossom, which Tao identifies as a fire lily. Dar also says that the location of one is very far away from their present spot.

The Shaman returns to find Maleena missing and the scene switches back to the Amazons as they plan to capture Castrone and feed him to the jungle beasts for what he does to women. The Shape Shifter has spotted Dar and Tao approaching their forest and the Priestess says they must die as well.

An outspoken Amazon, Hippolyte (pronounced Hippolyta), says they shouldn’t kill the innocent as they might help them with their cause. The Priestess disregards her concerns by again saying how evil men are…all men. She also tells everyone that Castrone made her marry someone, who proceeded to beat her everyday. She says that when she tried to escape, she was thrown into The Pit, and shows everyone the scars on her arms to prove it. The Priestess then asks for a warrior who is “unafraid of men” to find Dar and Tao and kill them to which Hippolyte volunteers.

Back to Dar and Tao now as they say they are moving too slowly. Dar says he will go on alone to find the fire lily and tells Tao to take Maleena to a safe place. Tao warns Dar of the danger of entering the jungle where “fierce female warriors” kill men, but Dar goes anyway. He leaves Ruh behind to guard over them.

Castrone and his men are on Tao’s trail now as we see Tao giving Maleena some water as well as seeing Dar making his way cautiously through the jungle. He knows he is being followed, and when Hippolyte confronts him, a tiger comes up behind her, which Dar tells to leave her alone. She is confused as to why Dar helped her, and runs off back towards camp.

Tao now has finally found a safe place to stop and goes to find a dressing for Maleena’s swollen wound. Ruh stays behind to guard her. Maleena is curious as to why men are helping her when she was told that all men outside the city were Barbarians. Tao responds by saying “Well, it would appear that the ones inside the city were the Barbarians.” “Not all,” replies the woman and she proceeds to explain what had happened to get her into this situation in the first place. She had simply loved the wrong man.

Castrone and his men are now on the edge of the forest and he threatens his men that they will go into “The Pit” if they do not follow – they agree even though they are still fearful of the “curse in the forest.”

Back to the Amazons now as we see Hippolyte being scorned because she did not kill Dar when she had the chance. She explains that he saved her from a tiger, but the Priestess writes it off as Sorcery. Instead of sending her back out, she says they will play to his weakness – the one weakness she says that all men have – seduction, and therefore sends out her Seductress to disarm Dar and bring him back to camp.

Back to Tao and Maleena now as her fever is growing rapidly and Ruh senses Castrone’s men in the distance. Tao uses a new contraption to hoist Maleena into the tree, which afterwards allows him to hide in the brush. Ruh scares off Castrone and his men, which then think that Ruh has eaten Tao and the girl. They decide now to go after Dar instead.

Hippolyte has gone back out to the forest to ask Dar why he saved her from the tiger to which Dar replies that if the tiger wanted her, he would have had to “go through me first.” He says that the tiger didn’t have the strength to fight off both of them, so he left her alone. Hippolyte, still confused by Dar’s kindness after hearing everything the Priestess has said again runs away, letting Dar continue his journey, where he proceeds to come upon the Seductress. He knows she is trying to trick him, and as such leaves her until she complains that she has hurt her ankle. Dar comes back, places her in a safe place, and again leaves, much to the aggravation of the Seductress.

Back at the Amazon camp, Hippolyte is still trying to convince the Priestess that Dar means them no harm and that since the Seductress didn’t work that he’s obviously not like other men. The Priestess states that the Seductress will succeed because all men are vile. Hippolyte interrupts and says that the Priestess is no better than Castrone himself, causing the Priestess to reprimand her once again after she says that she will prove she is better.

Back to Tao and Maleena who is starting to have hallucinations. She sees Tao as her lover from before. Tao realizes what is happening and decides to play along because he thinks the girl will probably die and he wants her to be comfortable. After this, he starts having a temper tantrum of sorts calling for Dar and asking where he is. Sharak relays this message to Dar, who now just so happens to come upon the location of a fire lily.

As Dar enters the water to retrieve one, the Seductress returns to watch the Shape Shifter pull Dar underneath the water, trying to drown him. Dar makes his way back to the surface only to find that the Shape Shifter has turned the top layer to ice, trapping Dar underneath. Kodo and Podo, after exiting the bag that Dar had left on the shore, cause a rockslide, which breaks the ice allowing Dar to escape, fire lily in hand.

Castrone’s men come upon Dar as he is catching his breath and as they start to fight, Hippolyte appears to give Dar back his weapon and to fight alongside him. Castrone gets away but Hippolyte has been injured.

Dar gives the lily to Sharak who flies away to give it to Tao who is trying to keep Maleena from falling asleep. She passes out just as Sharak arrives. He treats her and she then wakes up and starts to recuperate.

Hippolyte has returned to the camp with Dar, who wanted to make sure she was all right after the wound she sustained. Tao has also come to the camp, bringing Maleena with him, who has decided to stay at the camp with the Amazons. Dar is made a friend to the tribe and the Priestess acknowledges Hippolyte’s wisdom. They say their farewells and Dar and Tao continue on their journey to find Kyra.
