Season 2, Episode 22. hide show

Buffy arrives at the library after the surprise attack and is arrested for Kendra's murder. Cordelia was able to escape, while Xander was knocked unconscious, Willow entered a coma, and Giles is missing thanks to Drusilla. Buffy forms an alliance with Spike to help bring Angel down.

I loved this episode! The cliffhanger from the last episode was amazing. I loved how that episode ended and I loved the conclusion. I was really happy that Xander and Cordelia were OK. I felt bad for Willow though. Sarah Michelle Gellar always looks so good. I can't believe Buffy killed Angel! I liked the ending too, especially the song. Perfect episode.

Best season finale I have ever seen hide show

After watching this episode back in 1998, I thought it was the best season finale that I have ever seen. Over ten years later it still remains my personal favorite. ****Mild spoilers ahead***
After watching the Buffy and Angel romance blossom throughout season one and into season two, many fans were upset when Angel turned evil. I was also upset, but having him turn bad for a while created some great drama. However, by the time this two part finale rolled around, I was ready for good Angel to come back. He finally came back at the end of this episode, and I was so relieved and happy. That relief soon ended when Buffy saw the vortex opening from Acathla's mouth and you could see in her expression that she knew what needed to be done. She kissed Angel and told him to close his eyes. I still remember sitting in my living room trying to wave Buffy off. "No!! Don't do it!" However, even though her love was back, she had no choice but to kill him. My heart broke for Buffy, and it was hard not to feel for her. It was one of the few times that an episode got me teary eyed. It was an awesome episode, and it was only brought down by the fact that Angel's stunt double looked more like Xander, and the forthcoming news of an Angel spinoff series. Having Buffy kill Angel was like one of those Greek tragedies. It was a very emotional ending that was cheapened when you found out that Angel didn't actually die, he was sent to Hell and he would be back. Oh well, it was still a great episode.

Oz: Okay, I pretty much missed out on some stuff, didn't I? Because this is all making a kind of sense that's... not. hide show

This episode is amazing and heartbreaking at the same time. Willow is really great in this episode and I love how the first thing she says when she wakes up is Oz (take that Xander) and her insistence that she does the spell really shows how she cares so much about helping Buffy and saving the world. Spike coming to Buffy for help is great and they work so well together it is amazing. Spike and Joyce are another good pair and their weird friendship thing that develops is really funny. I also like how at the end he just looks at Buffy, realizes that she is probably going to die and then just walks away. Giles and Dru/Jenny is probably the saddest part of this episode because he is just tortured and used until he has nothing left which kind of parallel's Buffy's struggle with Angel who doesn't get Willow's message (I really love how Xander delivers the wrong message and just let's Buffy go on to kill the man that she loves). Then Buffy has to finally make that choice between herself and the rest of the world and she does her duty and kills Angel, kills her love and after that she no longer knows how to be herself. I like the scene after she left, being kicked out by Joyce and having lost her lover all she has left is her friends who aren't enough to keep her around. I love the flash to the school where Giles, Cordy, Xander, Willow and Oz await her return and try to return to their lives as 'normal'

A Fantastic Episode with a very SSSSAAADDD ending... hide show

Okay, so I keep stop thinking about the ending...

So a lot of things I did not expect happened in this episode. Willow is okay now and what happened when she was doing the Curse? That was very strange but the curse worked.

Xander was fantastic.. He said that he loved Willow and then she woke up and called for Oz.

Angel.. He turned good but then she killed him... NNNNOOOO I could not believe it.. I hope he will come back and be good again.

Giles went through a lot in this episode.. He was tortured for information but he was very tough. Buffy's Mum found out her daughter is a Vampire Slayer and in just 1 day after she lost her daughter as well..

Spike and Drusilla got away as Spike wanted... His plan worked but will Drusilla do when she wakes up?

Buffy fought with Angel, she got the Angel she loves back and had to kill him... Buffy left home after her mom told her that if she goes out she does not come back.. Buffy left school, left her frinads and family and even left town. What will happen now?

This is one of the best episode of season 2, possibly the most heartbreaking one also. hide show

this is the second part of the series finale, the first one was becoming part 1. in the previous episode, giles was kinapped, kendra was killed, willow is in a coma and buffy was expelled from school. to top that all up, this episode, spike unexpectedly come to buffy to help her stop angel. i was laughing hysterically when spike came up to buffy and said he wanted to help save the world. his speech about humans being 'happy meals with feet' was also very funny. the ending was just so sad. i cried when buffy killed angel just when he became good again. also the part where buffy's mom saw the letter buffy left for her, and the part where her friends thought she was coming to school and they kept hoping that buffy will show tho a part of them already know that buffy wont be coming to school.

  • Willow says that Oz will have to speak Latin during the Ritual of Restoration. However, they are actually speaking Romanian (and some lines of English). []
  • In Becoming part one during the attack the library clock says the time is 7:12. At the same time Buffy begins to run from the cemetary to the library. In this episode immediately after arriving at the library Buffy is confronted by two police officers and the same clock now says the time is 8:17. It should not have taken Buffy one hour and five minutes to run full speed from the cemetary to the school. The two are not that far apart. []
  • In this episode after Giles tells Jenny/Drusilla that Angelus’s blood is the key to opening Acathla, Angel replies, "My blood’s the key that opens the portal. My blood, my life…" You can clearly hear Angelus’s Irish accent when he says "life." []
More Trivia
  • Music in this episode:

    Buffy leaving Sunnydale:
"Full of Grace" by Sarah McLachlan []
  • This episode is the second part in a two-part episode, and throughout this series, season 2 is the only season that has three double episodes- the most amount of double episodes to occur in a single season throughout all seven seasons. []
  • In a 2003 interview with Entertainment Weekly, after she announced that she was leaving the show, Sarah Michelle Gellar named this episode, Becoming Part 2, as one of her all-time favorites. She says that the tragedy of Buffy's realization that she has to kill Angel, the man she loves, is her favorite thing about this episode. []
More Notes
  • Whistler: Bottom line is even if you see 'em comin' you're not ready for the big moments. No one asked for their life to change, not really, but it does. So what are we helpless? Puppets? No. The big moments are gonna come, ya cant help that. Its what you do afterwards that counts. Thats when you find out who you are. You'll see what I mean []
  • Angelus: Just tell me what I need to know.
Giles: In order to be worthy...
    Angelus: Yeah?
Giles: You must perform the ritual... in a tutu. Pillock! []
  • Buffy: Okay, fine, you're not down with Angel. Why would you ever come to me?
Spike: I want Dru back, I want it like it was before he came back. The way she acts around him..
Buffy: You're pathetic, I lost a friend tonight!
Spike: I wasn't in on that raiding party.
Buffy: And I may lose more! The whole earth may be sucked into Hell and you want my help because your girlfriend's a big ho? Well, let me take this opportunity to not care.
Spike: I can't fight them both alone and neither can you.
    Buffy: I hate you.
    Spike: And I'm all you've got. []
More Quotes
  • Joyce: "Are you sure you're a Vampire Slayer?" (a few lines later) "Have you tried not being a Slayer?"

This is an obvious play on being gay/lesbian. A similar play on words will be made some years after this episode in the movie X-Men 2. []
  • Angel: Keep out of it sit-n-spin.
The sit-n-spin was like a home version of the carnival teacup ride. You could sit on it and spin by turning the center dial. []
  • Giles: Pillock.
British slang meaning roughly "idiot" but somewhat stronger. []
