Channel 4 presents a new type of Sitcom, or is that a new type of reality show? In Bedsitcom, four men and two women come together to live in a London loft apartment, and be filmed for a fly-on-the-wall documentary. But three of the housemates are actors, with scripts and pre-planned actions - while the other three are members of the public who have no idea that they are sharing a house with actors. In the basement there's the writers, they've written a storyline, and are watching it unfold, but they've got to change it and adapt as it goes along. Meaning that scripts constantly had to be rewritten to deal with the unpredictable actions of the three unaware flatmates. The show also benefits from a team of actors who play genuinely original characters - not simply exaggerations or caricatures of themselves. After the housemates have had to put up with everything from flatmates' amorous mothers to dead goldfish, dodgy psychic lines to buying illegal goods - it finally becomes just too strange, the actors revealed themselves after two weeks of 4 episodes in the final episode on December 18th 2003. The 3 contestants are roped into going into the garage (were the writers have been giving the actors there scripts), to find pictures of them all over the walls and three tv screens than come on with Rufus, Paul and Mel on each telling them what's really being going on.
