Lionel Richie, the mellow R&B singer/songwriter, discusses his childhood in Tuskeegee, Alabama, joining his college band, The Commodores, then moving to New York City. As they gained success, Lionel's voice made it apparent he was heading for a solo career. After the split his star continued to rise, his lush ballads spawning hit after hit, until the death of his father, a tabloid scandal, and the public breakup of his marriage drove him into depression. We hear him describe how he lost the ability to sing, and disppeared from the scene for five years. Now remarried, with a son, he talks about how he 'found his heart again', while we also hear from Halle Berry, Kenny Rogers, Dick Clark, and others about the power of his music.
