Beverley Mitchell: Biography

Beverley Anne Mitchell plays 7th Heaven's Reverend Lucy Camden-Kinkirk. Before that, she has a recurring role on the comedy show series Phenom and guest-starred on Melrose Place, Baywatch, and Quantum Leap. She starred in the TV movies White Dwarf, Mother of the Bride, Baby of the Bride, and Children of the Bride (with Rue McCallan as her grandmother), and she also starred in the mini-series Sinatra. Her first feature film role was in A Killing Obsession, and she co-starred in the film The Crow: City of Angels. She is an honor student and is active and outspoken in the fight against drunk driving and drug abuse. She participates in the Kmart Kids Race Against Drugs and Y-Cart racing around the country. Beverley's hobbies include Cardio Kickboxing and singing. She lives with her mother in Southern California. She also was in a K-Mart commercial. (Along with George Stults and Mackenzie Rosman).

Unlike other actresses who are discovered through modeling or other glamorous methods, Mitchell was spotted by a talent agent after throwing a temper tantrum alongside her mother in the middle of a shopping mall. She started her acting career at age five, doing commercials for companies such as Oscar Mayer, Cream of Wheat, and Energizer batteries.

Beverley's first major television series was Big Brother Jake in 1990, which she followed up with 7th Heaven in 1996 but her success as an actress was overshadowed by personal tragedy. Her parents divorced shortly after she landed the role of Lucy Camden, and one year later a close friend died in a car crash.

Beverley graduated high school in 1999 and while working on the small screen, managed to attend Loyola Marymount University and study film. She has also started writing music with folk and rock influences. The actress is also involved with several charities, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

  • Beverley Mitchell: I thank my parents, because I've been very grounded. Granted, I grew up a lot faster because I've always been around adults, but I've always wanted to act. I'd do it and not get paid for it. It's my passion.(edit)
  • Beverley Mitchell: (about her friend Angela, whose tragic death inspired an episode from Season 2 of "7th Heaven") When Brenda [Hampton] asked me if I wanted to do this episode, I suddenly realized that I needed to let out my emotions and fears if I ever wanted to get over my pain.....at first, I wasn't prepared for the emotional tidal wave that would be released. Filming that episode was both emotionally and physically exhausting. Emotions that I had ignored for so long were now being unleashed, and I did not know how I was going to deal with them. Once the tears came, they didn't stop until weeks after.(edit)
  • Beverley Mitchell: (about her character Lucy on "7th Heaven") We're both very similar in that we're very family-oriented and people-oriented. I think she's a little bit more naive than I am. She places so much trust in people that they burn her, and I'm not that way.(edit)

  • Beverley: (about starting a new career in the Country and Western music industry) It's definitely different. You know, you're up there by yourself. I'm gonna have to stand alone on my own two feet and shine on my own. It is very intense, and very intimidating, and VERY scary because this whole record is a chance to truly see who I am; what I'm about. You see all facets of me in it. It's scary to be able to give that to someone and say, "Here I am, I hope you like it!"(edit)
  • Beverley: (anticipating her new Country and Western singing career) If all goes well, I'm gonna get this bug, and I'm gonna wanna be like--perform! I'm gonna be like jumping on all the stages! Anywhere I go, there's a stage--I'm on it!(edit)
  • Beverley: I like listening to positive things that make you feel good. I don't find Eminem that entertaining. (edit)
