Report says film featuring the paranormal pair of Mulder and Scully will also feature rapper Xzibit, Amanda Peet, Billy Connolly.
One of the two major science-fiction properties looking for new life next year in theaters is the upcoming X-Files movie (the other being J.J. Abram's Star Trek film), which is due out next July.
Like Star Trek, most specifics on the long-rumored movie are being kept under wraps like a government conspiracy. The only confirmed news is David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are returning to reprise their roles as agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, series creator Chris Carter wrote the screenplay (along with X-Files writer Frank Spotnitz) and will direct, and the movie will have a stand-alone story and won't be a sequel to the 1998 film.
Now comes word of new cast members, and it's a bit of a motley crew. The Hollywood Reporter says rapper Xzibit, Amanda Peet, and Billy Connolly will all have parts in the upcoming film.
Xzibit and Peet are set to play fellow FBI agents, according to The Hollywood Reporter, citing sources. No word was given on Connolly's character. Because the story of the film is so closely guarded, 20th Century Fox would not confirm the sources' information.
Rapper Xzibit got his start on the mic, but soon developed into a major television personality thanks to his spot hosting MTV's Pimp My Ride. He's also appeared in the films XXX: State of the Union, Gridiron Gang, and 8 Mile. Peet is best known for roles in The Whole Ten Yards and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Scotsman Connolly is legendary as a foul-mouthed comedian, musician, and actor, having roles in varied titles such as White Oleander, Muppet Treasure Island, and Fido, in which he played a domesticated zombie.
The X-Files ran for nine seasons between 1993 and 2002 on Fox, and is one of the most successful science-fiction television shows in history. The X-Files movie was released in 1998 and grossed almost $200 million worldwide.

The casting is a bit weird but who knows...we cant for sure because because we havent seen the damn movie yet! Wait until you see it before you guys start jumping on the "what a rapper in the movie? Ahhh great they just killed it!" bandwagon. We HAVENT seen it, yet, its not done. Hey if his performance sucks then you have all the right in the world to say it. But WAIT until it comes out first to critize it, damn. beachfrontglass: Rappers should stick to smoking crack and shooting each other. Talk about one minded....
03/21/2008 23:30:57Cermo is absolutely right, there happens to be a HUGE difference between "rapper" and "raper", unless of course Kobe Bryant starts rapping but I digress. I'm with those people that have said they will wait to complain until there is something to complain about, after all Chris Carter has rarely disappointed me in the past.
02/05/2008 12:56:20I agree with soulstar below, but I'll take it one further...hip-hop stardom does not preclude acting ability, including the ability to act a character straight. Look at Mos Def or Queen Latifah. I know everybody's imagination is running amok with visions of Agt. X decked out in a black suit and ten pounds of white gold, getting into a government-issue crown vic with 24-inch rims, plasmas on every flat surface and a @#$ chocolate fountain installed in the trunk, but try to remember, this is not an MTV film. Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz are at the helm. If you can't trust X, at least trust them. Also, please stop referring to Xzibit as a "raper"...I do no think that word means what you think it means.
01/08/2008 22:42:17Come on people! If X-Files taught us anything, it's never, ever forget to look beyond the surface. If the rumor of Xzibit is true, I'm sure he will be perfectly fine. Don't forget that not all feds are stiff, clean-cut people either, or how can they have task forces that go under cover. These task forces infiltrate gangs, terrorist cells, and yes even cults...so let's stop judging the man before checking out his performance first.
01/06/2008 19:35:37This doesn't seem to be too good. I don't have anything against Peet but a raper as fbi? C'mon.
01/02/2008 11:43:22Xzibit? will the the title be X-FILES: Pimp my UFO.
12/12/2007 07:07:59Xzibit in the X-Files?? Strange casting!
12/12/2007 04:23:39Xzibit looks pretty cool in a suit and tie. http://www.flynetonline.com/2007/12/the-truth-is-in-vancouver/
12/11/2007 18:29:37What happened to Dogget and Reyes? I can't wait to see what they do with this movie. I hope it doesn't move too far from the TV show and only have Mulder and Scully as the only kind of reference to the old days
12/11/2007 18:07:57I like
12/11/2007 12:58:33yikes. xzibit and amanda peet?! WTF?! my hopes for this movie just totally deflated.
12/11/2007 12:00:40Why is everyone giving Billy Connolly a hard time...hasn't anyone seen Boondock Saints or the Last Samurai. I'm sure he has been bad in some other movies I haven't seen, but clearly based on those 2 performances he is capable of being a really cool character.
12/11/2007 11:57:49OMG it would be so great if they could get the whole cast back together
12/11/2007 07:50:10I agree in that I also hope Mitch Pigetti is in the upcoming movie. I enjoyed how the character of Skinner involved from a distruster of Mulder and a skeptic to finally that of a friend and ally.
12/10/2007 22:51:34I'm surprised to hear that Amanda Peet was cast, but she may be good. I didn't really like her at all, then Studio 60 happenned. I really liked her on that. I think she needs a really good script with smart dialogue to do well. Maybe she was just so annoying because of the roles she used to play. Either way, I'm looking forward to the next X-Files film. The last one kinda went back to basics after the last few seasons of the show were not good. A stand alone story is a good idea. I'm keeping an opened mind and reserving judgement until after I see it.
12/10/2007 16:13:02I hope it's not as bad as the first movie
12/10/2007 01:17:23I used to love the X Files in its early years, it really kept me on the edge of my seat concerning the cover ups concerning ETs. The chemistry between Duchovney and Anderson was electric. However I felt that after the fith season it started to go down hill, I think Chris Carter lost the plot a little. Don't exactly know what they can do with the second story now that the truth was revealed.
12/09/2007 13:14:36At least Mulder and Scully didn't do the arrogant FBI agent jerks. If they did that on tv, then it wouldn't have lasted nine years now wouldn't it?
12/08/2007 18:21:28Xzibit and Billy Connolly? They'd better have a good storyline to make this work! As for other characters, my vote goes to Krycek! I know, I know, being shot several times usually eliminates you from reprising your role, but it didn't stop him from showing up in the series finale. Did it? So I say, bring the ratboy back!
12/08/2007 15:07:34One word: SKINNER. Desperately want to see Mitch Pileggi reprise this role.
12/08/2007 08:05:12I'm sorry, I couldn't help it... It's obvious Xzibit is the token member of the cast to hopefully die off or get badly injured, hey, somebody's gotta do it. Every film has one, why stop now? Without knowing the storyline... ...what am I saying?! No matter what the storyline is Peet should not have been cast. No matter how much you polish a turd it's still a turd. Peet looks like a very badly used prostitute. Chris Carter! It's not too late to change your mind. Just kick Peet to the curb, I'm sure she's used to it by now. I have no idea who the last guy is so maybe he'll have something worthwhile to contribute!!!
12/08/2007 05:13:06I really don't know who these other actors/rappers are, I,m just glad a new X-Files movie is coming out. Sone good news at last.
12/07/2007 20:17:26Hmmm...well it's taken so long, I just grateful there'll be a movie at last. Oddly enough I don't have a problem with Xzibit, but Amanda Peet irritates me. Still, I guess that means she'll make a good stereo-typical arrogant judgemental annoying FBI type. Only time will tell what the movie's about, but I hope it's not totally stand-alone. It would be nice if it followed arc at some point.
12/07/2007 16:49:29I missed X-Files. This news is perfect.
12/07/2007 16:39:34OMG, I really don't care who's in it at this point, if the story is good..ok, even if it's not, I'm goin!!!!!!!! whoop!!!!!!!!!!! Get my masking tape X up and I'm gone!!
12/07/2007 14:15:32Yo yo Cancer Man! light my fire home dawg, lata we be all up in dose hos Reyes and scully, 'aight G? -Agent Gangstalicious As portrayed by Xzibit
12/07/2007 13:28:16I love pimp my ripe, but I'm not quite how Xzibit will add to the X-Files
12/07/2007 12:16:10WTF? New FBI agents? They should've just brought back Dogget and Reyes.
12/07/2007 11:48:27Should be a good movie, although I have doubts about Xzibit
12/07/2007 09:38:33Oh come on, with all the stars of Holywood they have to cast these people? Expectations are getting loooow...
12/07/2007 09:21:57Xzibit? I don't know who he is, but it doesn't sound good. What about Robert Patrick, Mitch Pileggi, William B Davis and Annabeth Gish? This would be good news!
12/07/2007 08:21:11WTF? Xzibit? I don't think that he fits into an x files movie. What is Chris Carter or Fox thinking?
12/07/2007 07:47:11Of course Billy Connolly should stick to his respective genre. How dare he presume to think he's an actor, just because BAFTA and the Screen Actors Guild nominated him for major awards?
12/07/2007 07:06:06I am hoping its just not a 2hr episode
12/07/2007 06:53:08Xzibit? Will Vanilla Ice and Eminem be joining him? I know this is an attempt to attract more black customers but there are better black actors they could use Lennie James from JERICHO! Hes experienced at playing a government agent. CIA/FBI - pretty much the same thing. Hes my favorite new actor.
12/07/2007 05:43:48I agree with Linc-o; wait for the movie, give the guy a chance. Since most of you already made up their minds, all that can happen is that you may be pleasantly surprised. Besides, he's only one role - and come to think of it, Amanda Peet? As a strong FBI agent? Come on. A strong rapper with tons of charisma, fine. A super-pretty frail Peet? Only if she had character strengths of Glenn Close, and she does not. But I'm letting myself be surprised.
12/07/2007 00:57:54They need to put Marilyn Manson in this movie.
12/06/2007 23:05:11Come on... I went Annabeth Gish and Robert Patrick to be in the next movie..... *Pray*
12/06/2007 21:09:39I loved the tv show but the first movie was kind of weak....
12/06/2007 19:03:18Wait. Am I reading this correctly? Xzibit? WTF! Rapers do NOT belong in an X-Files move. The actors in a movie are somewhat important so maybe they should have thought a little bit harder before casting some of these guys. The X-Files are great, and I'm going to see the movie, but the actors...Oh, well. Maybe it will end up OK?
12/06/2007 18:51:34Why don't you guys just wait until the damn movie comes up, instead of saying NOW that it'll be a pile of crap just because there's someone you don't like playing a role on it?
12/06/2007 18:31:17This is just as insulting as putting Eminem in "Have Gun, Will Travel" - thanks for nothing, screwing up yet another cherished series by putting a flavor-of-the-month rapper in it.
12/06/2007 18:05:13Does anyone remember why the previous Xfiles movie did well? I mean, aside from the show being big....because it stayed hard to the serious storyline, it didnt cast rappers into primary roles. I can see it now, the plot is already self containing, the thing will be a high energy (lets keep in mind the last xfiles movie was before the matrix and the hyperactivity flicks now exhibit) comedy infused romp with Xhibit doing the ending credits track. This isn't the sequel to Get Shorty Damnit! Try and make it good, not do this!
12/06/2007 17:35:32It is kind of hard to imagine Xzibit as an FBI agent, but the other two are great actors, who might be best known for comedy but have both done drama in their time as well. But if anyone actually remembers back, The X-Files could actually be quite (darkly) funny at times as well ...
12/06/2007 16:29:13Rappers should stick to smoking crack and shooting each other
12/06/2007 15:56:10Xzibit? I thought this was a serious movie.
12/06/2007 14:28:13Lets bring x files back to TV
12/06/2007 14:27:37They honestly could not find better actors to fill these roles? I mean come'on, Xzibit, seriously?! Xzibit, Peet and Connolly should stick to their respective genres. Who knows though, perhaps I'll be proven wrong and it will be a great movie, however I'm not going to hold my breath.
