In early publicity for the series, the daughter was described as being Black Canary herself, which led to protests from fans of the comic book character. Subsequently the series made it clear that the girl was not Black Canary. This was the episode to explain that.
(edit)
The actual Black Canary character in the DC comics was named Dinah Lance and had the sonic cry. There were actually two of them, one a mother and the other a daughter, both named Dinah and both bore the title Black Canary. There was never a Carolyn Lance and neither had any kind of telepathic or telekinetic ability.
(edit)
Dinah starts to gain the power of telekinesis in this episode.
(edit)
German title: "Black Canary"
(edit)
The script was written to show that Carolyn survived and passed the title of Black Canary on to Dinah. Later, the scene was shot where Barbara gave Dinah the title instead, saying her mother would have wanted it. It was cut anyway.
(edit)
Reese: I told you to stay out of it.
Helena: Yeah, well, I forgot. Kinda egotistical to think you could take them on alone.
Reese: Ooh, says the lone vigilante.
Helena: I know you think that was supposed to be an insult, so I'll go ahead and be offended. (edit) Hawke: I found my soul the day my father left this earth.
Carolyn: Really? Sounds more like you found the self-help section in the bookstore. (edit) Street Thug: Can I have a second chance?
Hawke: Not unless you believe in reincarnation. (edit) Frankie: Don't worry - I'll get her.
Hawke: If it's meant to be. And Frankie - make sure it's meant to be. (edit) Barbara: I don't think we should interfere.
Helena: We interfere for a living. (edit)

In the scene when Dinah is walking into the "No Man's Land" bar, it is early evening, but still when Oracle contacts Huntress telling her that she found Dinah (after receiving an e-mail from Gibson, which was send barely 5 minutes after Dinah walked in), it is night time... how can this be?? Is Oracle's computer so slow that it took several hours for her to receive the e-mail????
(edit)
Did they actually find Black Canary's remains at the warehouse after the explosion? This is never stated, but otherwise it seems odd they assume she was killed, particularly since non-metahuman Hawke somehow managed to survive.
(edit)
When Helena visits Jesse at the police station squad room, absolutely no one is there. In a major crime-ridden city like New Gotham there are no other policemen around?
(edit)
So Gibson remembers everything he's ever seen and heard...except where he put down his autograph pen?
(edit)
Why is Black Canary so insistent that Dinah pack up and leave town? Oracle couldn't figure out Dinah was BC's daughter despite knowing they had the same name and were both metahumans - how the heck is Hawke going to figure it out? (Maybe BC is just being overly protective, but it still seems odd...)
(edit)
Dinah: She could take on lions, tigers and bears.
