The plot of the episode bears a striking resemblance to the 1967 Star Trek episode Arena. In both cases, a space battle is interrupted by an omnipotent power, the captains are given primitive weapons and forced to fight hand-to-hand on the surface of a planet while the crew watch and the hero spares the villain at the end. Mutoid: We exist only to serve.
Travis: Oh? Then you'll probably cease to exist. (edit) Avon: Logic says we're dead!
Blake: Logic has never explained what dead means. (edit) Blake: Vila, try and stay alert.

Mistake: Travis claims the other pursuit ships have forced Liberator into "this galaxy". But he should say 'star system' or 'planetary system', as intergalactic travel is not possible in the series. (edit)
