It is the day after the explosion. The Mt. Thomas police station lies in ruins; Senior Constable Joanna Parish is dead, as is Clancy Freeman; and Grace Croydon is missing. While Tom recovers in hospital, PJ, Ben, Susie and Jonesy move into the new police premises where they are met with a surprise: Nick Schultz, now a Detective Sergeant in Homicide, has arrived to investigate the attack. And he's not the only one.
Sergeant Mark Jacobs has arrived in town for a temporary post - or so he thinks. But Inspector Falcon-Price wants Jacobs to move permanently into Mt. Thomas, because he wants a person more suitable than Ben to take over when Tom retires. Jacobs is an intellectual, self-confident, ambitious man in his 40s and quickly shows authority as the group move into their new premises.
PJ and Nick question 'Rocket' Turnbull, Tom's old war comrade, although he claims - and Tom agrees - that he couldn't get access to that much explosive.
When Cal Millic - the father who threatened Jo shortly before the explosion - is brought in, he seems a likely suspect, and the evidence begins to mount against him.
A grieving Chris is equally distraught over Jo's death, Tom's injuries, and Clancy's death. But even she can't convince Tom to stay in hospital, and he has soon discharged himself to look for Grace, who was last seen going to see the Baxter family.
Meanwhile, another cop has arrived to take up a permenant posting: Detective Senior Constable Amy Fox is a sweetly spoken, but smart and relentless detective in her early 30s, with a history of childhood tragedies. PJ, however, still reeling from his loss, gives her an unpleasant welcome, suggesting that she pack up her bags and go back where she belongs.
On the advice of Tarni Baxter, Grace's car is found and, close to it, Tom finds her body in a creek. As he breaks down, the cops realise that the property belongs to Cal Millic's ex-wife's aunt.
The other cops close in on Millic, but Tom is determined in his belief that the Baxters were involved. As he drives out to the property, he ignores the news on the radio that Millic may be guilty.
When he returns, he has news: the only Baxter he found was Troy, who is dead - apparently the victim of an 'unfortunate accident'... Add a recap »

- Probationary Constable Joss Peroni came into the show the same way Maggie (Lisa McClune) came into the show on the very first day. Both got pulled over for speeding on their way to their first day at the police station. edit »
- While most of the new cast members in season 11 auditioned for their roles, the producers had Geoff Morrell in mind from early on and approached him about the role. While he was eager to play a cop, he revealed in a February 2005 interview with "The Age", he wanted to spend time with his family and his art career in his home in New South Wales. As a result, Morrell negotiated with the producers to allow him to only have to work three days a week on the set in Melbourne. This deal would be evident in the first nine months or so of Mark's existence on the show, during which time the character rarely left the office. edit »
- The new credits (done without Jane Allsop) allude to scenes in later episodes. We see Susie in body armor preparing to enter the home of a suspect of the bombing, and Ben smashing the window of Cal Milich's car, both from the episode Pigs Will Fly which is shown two weeks later. edit »
- McInnes recieves a credit directly after the opening credits, a rarity for this show. edit »
- When initially asked to return to the show for five episodes, William McInnes refused, however when he was shown the scripts and the new direction the show was taking, he changed his mind. edit »
- William McInnes returns to the show for a five episode arc, after leaving in the fifth season. He is the second main cast member to return to the show after leaving it. The first being Ann Burbrook, who played Roz Patterson, who made a one-episode stint after her husband Wayne's tragic death. edit »
- Pj: Who the hell are you?
Amy: Amy Fox. Detective Senior Constable.
Pj: Right, so what are you doing in my office?
Amy: You're Pj Hasham?
Pj: Yeah and that's Detective Sergeant Schultz's spot.
Amy: Oops, I thought it was empty.
Pj: Yeah well it's not, I mean who's decision was it to send another member?
Amy: The region sent me.
Pj: To help with the investigation?
Amy: No, I'm posted here.
Pj: Sorry?
Amy: Posted, as in permenantly. Look, I don't want to tread on anyone's toes I'll just find myself a chair somewhere and get myself sorted out.
Pj: If you want.
Amy: Well no, actually, I don't want but it'll do for the moment til I've worked out what's going on. edit »
