In a special bonus available only on the commercial video edition of this episode and aired before the start of the episode, a group of kids welcomes us in. They're watching the show and laugh at Steve's antics as he works on a birthday dance for Blue. It doesn't seem to be working very well. Blue's going to wake up soon and we still have to get ready for her party. The kids ask Steve to skidoo into their house so that they can teach him "The Birthday Candle Dance." Steve agrees and skidoos right into their house. Once there, he tries to talk with their clock, wondering how much time he has. The kids tell him that it doesn't talk, but he dismisses this and calls it "Timely." To the kids' surprise, a face appears on it and tells him that he has to be back when both of the clock hands are on the "12." That's ten minutes. The kids get to work, demonstrating the dance for Steve. The lyrics go like this: "Have a happy birthday, you-ou / And we'll have a great day too-oo / Everybody play because it's Blue's special day / Happy birthday, blow out the candles!" Steve watches and then asks them to do it again to make sure that he has it. They do it and Steve tries it out, but doesn't have it right. There are motions that go along with the dance and he can't seem to remember them. The kids help him out by going over the motions one by one. At one point, he actually lies down on the ground when the idea is really to make a candle with your body. He finally gets it right and we do it together. He wants to do it once more, but he's out of time and Timely sends him back to the Blue's Clues house.
Happy birthday, Blue! Steve welcomes us in, saying that we're the first guests for Blue's party. He says that we're a little early and since we are, he wants to ask for our help in getting things ready for the party. We agree and help out with the special dance for Blue. Later, we help out by fixing some things that are out of place. We notice a cupcake that's missing sprinkles and a party invitation that got dropped on the ground. We also help to complete a set of balloons that was missing one and place a missing napkin on a table. The skidoo segment is a bit different than usual because Blue doesn't come along. Instead, we visit the present store with Steve and pick out gifts for Blue. Later, we play party games and watch as Blue unwraps her presents, each of which match the personalities of the friend that gave them to her.
