Steve is watching television. He got tired of having to get up to change the channel, so he came up with an extending-hand device that allows him to change the channel without getting up. Unfortunately, as Blue shows him, there's already a better device that can do this, a remote-control, so he hasn't invented anything. Steve, however, won't be daunted and so he begins his quest to invent something with the motto of trying again. He comes across Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper and tries to help them with their problem of wanting peanut butter and jelly together on bread, only to find that what he comes up with is sandwich, another invention that already exists. We play Pail and Shovel's inventions game. In it, we first put a candlestick telephone, a telegraph and a cordless phone in the order in which they were invented. Next, we have a go at it with a jet, a biplane and a glider. In the Blue Skiddoo segment, we visit some sort of invention factory and take a look at some famous transportation inventions: a bicycle, a train and a car. And finally, Steve accomplishes what he set out to do and invents a holder for his notebook.

In this episode, Steve plays Blue's Clues to figure out what Blue invented. The three clues in this episode are:

Clue 1: Steve's Notebook
