Blythe had wanted to be an actress since her school days, and spent several years in theatre before joining the Taggart team. On her first day of filming Blythe had a pleasant surprise as she found herself on set with the Scottish Opera Chorus. A group she had worked with only a year before. After her guest role in the episode "Death Comes Softly" she was secconded to CID for the following installment, "Rogues Gallery", and her now ever familiar position. Her part in Taggart meant that Blythe had to learn to drive and despite failing her test on the first go she was ready for her first day of filming.
She still does theatre and has recently stared in a stage production of "Mums the Word". Within the last few years she has married her next door neighbour, a real Strathclyde DS and has become a stepmother to his children, her role that she relishes. She has joked that she dreads the day when Reid is promoted above her husband.
