Virgina City is struggling through a shortage of supplies. Sky high prices for flour and other necessary items prompts the local businessmen to form a commitee to find a solution to the problem. Ben Cartwright joins it to bring his influence and expertise to the table. It would appear that the criminal element controls the area around the next town before Virginia City on the stage line. Stages and wagons loaded with mail and supplies rarely get through before they are raided. The stage line sends a "troubleshooter" to rectify the situation and he is aided by the Cartwrights as they go and take back control of the depot and deal with the criminals.
