Helen Layton: Hoss, you know there are some stores where ladies shop alone.
Hoss: (looks slightly troubled) Yeah...I don't reckon I thought about that. (edit) Hoss: (to Little Joe) I done made reservations with the - the garcon. (edit) Helen Layton: Am I supposed to shrivel up and die, just because my husband is dead? (edit) Hoss: ...It ain't exactly owning her. I reckon the Ponderosa holds about as much claim to us as we do her. It's more like a partnership. Like were all sorta beholding to one another. What I mean to say is that, Pa won't let us cut a tree down unless there's another tree growing to take its place or take a cup of water out of the lake if it makes the lake go down that much. The Ponderosa's got, got a mighty lot to give. Like Pa says, we ain't take one ounce out her that she can't grow back. (edit) Hoss: (to Little Joe) It's to keep you from getting chased all the way back to the Ponderosa by a hoppin' mad daddy with a shotgun in his hand. And from the way I saw you and that little filly downstairs makin' eyes at each other, that's just about what's gonna happen. (edit)
