Red-haired and freckled American stage and television actress Bonnie Franklin is a native Californian and a graduate of Beverly Hills High School. She broke into acting with bit parts on such 1960's staples as Gidget, Mr. Novak and The Munsters, while still honing her stage chops, that culminated in a TONY nomination for the Broadway musical Applause in 1970. She is best remembered as Anne Romano, the divorced mother of two teen agers in CBS's One Day at a Time. Her role as an independent, professional and sexually active single parent earned Franklin both an EMMY and a Golden Globe nomination in 1975. Her work has been sporadic since "One Day" went off the air in 1981, but she can still be found on retrospectives and the occasional guest star role.
