A native Atlantan, who parlayed a Navy technical writer job into TV sitcom writing and producing for hit shows such as "Blossom" and "Mad About You."
Her breakout hit though (as a TV writer) was her creation of the WB hit "7th Heaven." The concept was based on Hampton's own life, growing up in a loving east Atlanta household and going to church every Sunday (the show's town of Glenoak is named after her church). "We grew up in an environment like that," said her sister Pat Hampton, the inspiration for "7th Heaven" matriarch Annie Camden. "On Sundays in the South, you go see relatives."
Since the show started Ms. Hampton has adopted her (then) 10-year-old daughter Zoe from Vietnam; and has gotten married. In an interesting twist it was her adoptive daughters teacher. She also hopes to adopt more children in the future---in particular, an 8-year-old boy from Ethiopia soon. Her credits also include the short-lived "Safe Harbor", "Love Boat: The Next Wave", etc. She continues to be the creative force on the long-lasting "7th Heaven" series.
