Goosebumps: Bride of the Living Dummy

Katie, Harrison, Jillian, and Katie's annoying doll Mary-Ellen were seeing a show put on by the famous ventriloquist Jimmie O' James, who was using his dummy, Slappy. However, as most would know, Slappy is no normal dummy. He's alive. And, while at the show, it would seem that he fell in love with Katie's doll. When Jillian searched for her sister after she forgot Mary-Ellen, she met Jimmie O' James, and Jimmie gave her an autographed photo and she gave her address. However, Jimmie used the address to send Slappy to Jillian. And now strange things are happening around the house. Scary things. Evil things. And Jillian and Katie get the hint when Slappy steals their Mom's wedding ring. Read full recap »

As you know from the previous dummy episode (Night of the Living Dummy III) Slappy is very tall and long in that episode probably as tall as a 12-year old. But in this episode Slappy is very short, about as tall as a baby. edit »
How does Jillian get all the way to Jimmie 'O James' house without realizing that Slappy isn't in his case and her dog is? I don't think that Slappy could weigh as much that dog. edit »
In Night of the Living Dummy III, Slappy gets hit by lightning and explodes into tiny pieces, but in the beginning of this one, he's repaired. It never explains how he was fixed. edit »

Slappy comes back, without any explanation. He exploded last time, but he came back. He has some clever dialogue, and still shows that he's evil, like when he locks the dog in the case or traps Harrison in the bathroom. But apart from that, it wasn't like his other famous appearances. It differed greatly from the book, and the whole "I want my bride" bit didn't make much sense with Mary Ellen not being part of his scheme in the adaptation after all. It can be seen as a very abridged version of the original story. On the plus side, there were nods to previous episodes, such as the presence of Rocky's busted head from the last installment, and the obvious episodes Katie and Harrison were watching. The ending was also a good way to wrap up the storyline too.

For the most part, BotLD could have sent a shiver up your spine. Especially if you have an old dummy sitting in the basement. The beginning was really dumb. It was a total copy of Child's Play: a person reads the spooky words causing a wooden dummy to come alive. In Child's Play, however, it was a Good-Guy doll! Then scary clouds speed into the sky and lightning strikes. I think the screenwriters of BotLD watched Child's Play one too many times. The acting wasn't too special; and that�s all I can say. It would be nice if the actors looked somewhat scared when an evil dummy jumped on them, but for some reason they weren't. I think that if some living doll tried to bite off my head, I'd scream at the top of my lungs. I'd also try to pull it off of me. Notice how when, for instance the basement scene, Slappy attacked the girl and she hesitated for a second, but then didn't care? The only good actor was that, how should I phrase it, "over-sized" kid. He had cool eyeballs at the end which freaked us all out. The visual effects, in this case, (how the dummy was operated), was fine. But comparing it to major motion pictures like Child's Play, Slappy looked really fake. They really didn't show his legs because they didn't have the equiptment to manipulate movement for the puppet's lower body. I think that for future episodes, the visual FX team should turn towards computer animation for animation unliving objects. As for the plot, it did make sense. Slappy wants a bride. He's gonna get a bride no matter what. Slappy goes to extremes (isn't that a song by Billy Joel?) to get it. And of course, at the end, he somehow dies in the most interesting way possible. It would have been very neat if the camera focused on the table-saw showing the dolls being sawed apart before our very eyes. It may have not have been suitable for a Y7 rating, then. Owell. The ending was once again twisted, strange, somewhat suspenseful, and made absolutely no sense. Something must be wrong with that kid's eyes -- or maybe Slappy's evil soul took over his soul???

This episode was a remarkable one.Altough,it seemed that it should have a second part to it.There are too many facts to point out on how they made it so hard to see that Slappy was not on a stand or something.Although,that is probably why the fight between Slappy and Mary-Ellen was so blurry.The character I have to say was my favorite was Jillian.Not just because she resembles me in a way but her way of destroying Slappy was well thought, along with that,she'd be great in a horror flick.I know it's not real,but if it was,that'd be a greatly well thought idea.In my conclusion,this episode should have won at least an emmy.

I think that this episode was an alright episode but it wasn't my favorite one of the series. I think that Slappy's repeating of I want my bride, I want my bride was kind of annoying but I think that the ending of this story was a good ending. I won't give it away but if you like Slappy alot then you should see this episode.
