Trivia

add »
Although this episode takes place in the 25th century the entertainment at the dinner largely resembled 1970s era roller disco. (edit)
Princess Ardala explains that for her to stay in charge, she must wed. At the end of the episode (and right up until her last appearance on the show) she remains unmarried, yet maintains her position and power. This is not explained. (edit)
Goof: During the first sequence, the part in Gerard's hair changes to his right side then reverts back to the left. (edit)

Allusions

add »
Col. Wilma Deering: (pointing to Twiki who is wearing headphones and dancing) What is he doing?
Buck Rogers: Well, thanks to Dr. Junius at the archives, he's listening to a tape of Meat Loaf.

Buck is referring to American rock singer and front man for the band The Neverland Express, Michael Lee Aday (born Marvin Lee Aday) and better known as Meat Loaf. He is best known for his album Bat out of Hell and the song "Paradise by the Dashboard Light." (edit)
Buck Rogers: If only OPEC could see me now.

Buck is referring to the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, formed in 1960 in Baghdad, Iraq. In 1973, OPEC placed an oil embargo on the United States and Western Europe forcing a dramatic rise in oil and gas prices. In 1979, the year this episode aired, the Shah of Iran, one of the U.S.'s best allies in the Middle East was overthrown by opposition forces. Widespread panic caused oil and gas prices to skyrocket again. OPEC member nations increased output to make up for the loss caused by the instability in Iran and posted record profits. (edit)
