Buffy the Vampire Slayer is the show that really launched the popularity of the genre. The show is based on the history of a long line of vampire slayers that stand between the evil and civilization. Buffy an ordinary teenager becomes the slayer. hide « show »

Sarah Michelle Geller as Buffy the Vampire Slayer is one of the most beloved characters in television history. This show ran for seven years from 1997 till 2001 on the doomed WB network and then was picked up by the UPN for its final two years 2001-2003. During its run it pulled very good numbers for the fledgling WB network and spawned the popular series Angel starring David Boreanaz.

Beside Geller the cast consisted off Nicholas Brendon as Xander who was later on Kitchen Confidential. Alyson Hannigan as Willow who has gone on to star in movies and the hit TV show How I Met Your Mother. Anthony Stewart Head as Giles, Buffy's mentor. David Boreanaz as Angel who went on to the show of the same name and plays Booth on the current FOX hit Bones, Charisma Carpenter, who played Cornelia for three seasons and then went on to star in the spin off Angel. Michelle Trachtenberg as Buffy's sister Dawn Summers. James Master as Spike who also went to be on Angel at the end of Buffy's run. Emma Caulfield as Anya my favorite character who also starred in the film Darkness Falls. Amber Bensen who played Tara. Marc Blucas as Riley Finn. Finally Seth Green who played OZ and may be the most successful actor who played in the series as his roles (40+ movie roles and 60+ TV roles) include Austin Powers, Family Guy, and The Italian Job just to name a few.

As you can see from the long cast of characters this series had a incredible amount of talent involved. This was also another of Joss Whedon's projects. Joss' more famous productions are shows like Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dr. Horrible, and The Dollhouse.

Even though supernatural shows came before and since this show seems to stand out as the creature(vampire) feature champion that proved vampires could be sexy in Hollywood as mainline characters. There have been shows like Dark Knight and Dark Shadows prior that pioneered the vampire as a main character, but I think Buffy brought the genre out of the closet and has spawned many books, TV shows, and movies.

Just recently there have been discussions of a Buffy movie even though there already was one prior to the TV series starring Kristy Swanson. If there is a movie I personally would like to see the cast of the TV show reprise their roles. I am sure Geller is still in shape and could pull off a believable twenty something in the lead role.

I definitely would recommend you watch this series from beginning to end. There are some really brilliant episodes like the Musical one in the later years that you will watch over and over again.

    Thanks for reading...

One of the best television series period. No show has quite matched the intelligence, creativity or teenage angst like this cult classic has. The writing is superb and every episode feels fresh. Quite possibly the best teenage drama series ever. hide « show »

Yeah, I said it and I meant every bit of it. Buffy the Vampire Slayer has offered some of the most intelligent and thought provoking scenarios ever. From an entire town losing their voice and slowly having their souls sucked away by monsters to being trapped in a house by a mean-spirited vengeance demon, Buffy the Vampire Slayer always brought new ideas into the fray. However, that alone doesn't make the series worthy of my claim. What really engages you into the story is it's incredible drama, awesome cast of characters and unbelievably well-told fiction. Everything in the series is so well fleshed-out and has a meaning. The characters are incredible and each have their own motive and ideals.

The show also deals with mature themes. *Minor Spoilers* In one part of the series, a character falls in love and copulates with an ensouled vampire. The bond is so great that the happiness eventually destroys the curse that locked the character into his souled position. As he becomes evil he begins to torment his former lover. The heart pulls during those episodes are deftly executed and really make you feel the emotions the characters are feelings.

All in all, this is one of my all time favorite shows. I've seen every episode and wouldn't mind seeing them all again. Well, most of them, there are a few that leave something to be desired. If you like these types of shows, Buffy is most surely top of its class and you'd be a fool not to check it out.

Greatest. Show. ever! hide « show »

Buffy the vampire slayer, remake of the failed 1992 film (that's just older than me), became one of the greatest shows ever. It starred buffy summers (al seasons), willow rosenberg (all seasons), rupert giles (main s1-5, recurring s6 & 7), xander (all), anya (appeared in s3, reccuring s4, main s5-7), dawn (s5-7), angel (recurring s1, main s2 & 3, main in spinoff angel), spike (s2 & 3, main s4-7, joined angel for s5), cordy (s1-3, joined angel for s1-4) and tara (s4-6, main for seeing red). i havent been a buffy fan for long, but once i liked angel, i loved buffy, then loved firefly, dr horrible nd dollhouse. all falls in place

One of the best shows ever! hide « show »

When I first saw Buffy I wasn't really blown away or anything, but it caught my attention. And after a while I coldn't stop watching. The charcters are well written and very deep too. Everyone has to go through their personal ups and downs. And although Buffy is the main character the Scoobies are never forgotten. And without them the show wouldn't have been so good.
I'm a huge Joss Whedon fan and he wrote and directed some episodes here that belong to the best I've ever seen. The most heartbreaking one was "The Body". Joyce Summers was never my favourite, but I cried my eyes out from beginning to end, especially in that Willow/Anya scene.
And of course there was "Once more with feeling". I love musicals and I never expected to see one on the TV. But when I did I watched it again and again.
    That's perfect television!

The slideshow people! The slideshow... hide « show »

First of all, this episode of Buffy is the only on to date that gave me a kind of creepy feeling. All the other ones are fun. funny and sarcastic but this one was actually kind of...ulgh. The Gentlemen are an ulgh looking kind of wide eyed dudes that Whedon gave great detail to. I love the suits and suitcases, I loved the bony hands and the no lips smile with the silver teeth. The no voice part was eery and the fact that they we're so nice in their demeanor and so civilised yet serial killer like made it perfect. But the slideshow...definately the best part.
