LARRY "BUSTER" CRABBE was born in Oakland, but grew up in Hawaii. It was here that he developed into a great swimmer and high school athlete.
He went to HOLLYWOOD where he started out by portraying TARZAN. He later played other action hero characters usually in Westerns and adventure serials. He is probably best known for his screen portrayals of sci-fi heroes FLASH GORDON and BUCK ROGERS. In the 40's he played BILLY THE KID in several Westerns with AL "FUZZY" ST. JOHN as the comic sidekick.
He hosted THE BUSTER CRABBE SHOWBUSTER'S BUDDIES kids' TV show. It began Monday, March 12, 1951 as a weekly evening program shown on WOR-TV, Ch 9 in New York City. Against the background of a ranch foreman's bunkhouse, CRABBE would engage the viewers with stories, games, craftmaking, hobbies, informational segments and interviews with guest performers and personalities in between reruns of old movie Westerns, Serials and Comedies. On Friday, Octoer 3, 1952 the show was dropped. It returned as BUSTER'S BUDDIES on Monday, September 21, 1953 on WJZ(WABC) TV, Ch 7 in New York City with the same format. A studio audience of kids was added. It was cancelled on Friday, March 26, 1954.
