Cagney: I made it through high school without dope. Or sex, believe it or not.
Lacey: You had God?
Cagney: I had nuns. (edit) (Isbecki tries to hide from Cagney that there will be a precinct softball team.)
Isbecki: She doesn't know about this, and she doesn't have to.
La Guardia: Don't you think she'll catch on when you guys disappear at three in the afternoon, wearing spiked shoes and carrying baseball bats?
Isbecki: She'll think we're on patrol in the Bronx. (edit) (they need to ask a cop's widow some difficult questions.)
Cagney: I don't want to do this. I mean, what do you say?
Lacey: Say the obvious. "How much did the sofa cost? Did you buy it before or after your husband started taking bribes?" (edit) (Lacey finds it hard to juggle work and family duties.)
Cagney: You look like hell.
Lacey: Split me in half, my life would be perfect.
Cagney: So? Your life's half perfect.
