Captain Scarlet & The Mysterons debuted on the U.K. terrestrial television network, ATV (the Midlands region only, at first), on Friday, 29 September 1967 at 5:25 p.m. After the Pilot was aired, the series immediately began to attract to-be addicted fans of all ages, and since then, it still has, with credit due to several re-runs on the likes of ITV (1985-1986) BBC 2 (1993-1994 / 2001-2002 - the channel which aired the digitally re-mastered prints for the first time, cleaned up and painstakingly restored by BBC Resources and Carlton), Sky One (recently - 2003), and in the mid-90s, Bravo.
The remaining 31 episodes were aired throughout the Autumn & Winter Seasons of 1967, ending with ATV transmitting the series' finale episode, The Inquisition on the late Spring date of Tuesday, 14 May 1968 (NOTE: After the 23rd originally-broadcasted episode, Place of Angels, the show was moved to a Tuesday evening time-slot, at 5:00 p.m. - This resumed until the remaining 8 episodes that ATV had paid for, were tele-casted).
Although only 32 episodes were produced, they all still consist of unique, though-provking and original entertainment, in both adult-written and well-structured script-writing (with special great thanks to Script Editor Tony Barwick, who wrote an amazing number of 18 episodic scripts, and was shockingly not credited for this), expensive and truly-realistic miniature special effects and pyrotechnics (with a second great thanks to the late Derek Meddings, who worked on various 1974-1995 James Bond 007 motion pictures, all 3 of the original Superman motion-pictures and the original Batman movie) and the most advanced puppet techniques tested and tried to the limit and brought to our screens.
SPECIAL NOTE! - STARTING FROM MONDAY, FEBRUARY 14TH - TWO DAYS AFTER THE WORLD PREMIERE OF THE "NEW CAPTAIN SCARLET" CGI SERIES:
Sky One Mix (Channel No. 107 on Sky Digital), are the network who will be re-running the original episodes, from #16, "Renegade Rocket", right down to #27, "Codename Europa" on weekdays (Monday - Friday), showing 2 episodes as a double-bill from 11:50 a.m. till 12:45 p.m., in the UK only.
ITV 1 are the network who originally aired the series back in the late 60's, when they were then known as ATV,(Associated TeleVision), and the network that will be airing the world premiere and the UK-run of the "New Captain Scarlet" CGI series. "The finger is on the trigger...about to unleash a force with terrible powers, beyond the comprehension of man. This force we shall know as, The Mysterons. This man will be our hero, for fate will make him indestructible. His name: Captain Scarlet." -- "The Mysterons" (PILOT) episode voiceover introduction voiced by Ed Bishop (Captain Blue).
Captain Scarlet &...
LAST EPISODE
The Inquisition
While relaxing at a smart countryside restaurant during a late evening, Captain Blue, accompanied by Captain Scarlet, starts to feel strange after drinking a cup of black coffee.
When Scarlet issues himself to fetch their coats, Blue instantaneously disappears, and when awakening, finds himself sitting in Lieutenant Green's chair back on Cloudbase, with a Spectrum Intelligence agent, who calls himself Colgan, sitting in Colonel White's chair.
He explains that Blue has been absent without leave for three months, and must prove his identity by disclosing top-security information; the Spectrum cipher codes, before he can return to active duty.
Without having to do this, Captain Blue instead tells the story of three Spectrum assignments involving the Mysterons: the nuclear attack on London, the mission of destroying the Mysteron complex in Crater 101, and the prevention of a Mysteronised Commodore and his aid from slaughtering the Supreme Command of the World Air Force at the Scottish Glen Garry Castle, which wasn't released to the press.
But Colgan still continues to question Blue regarding the cipher codes, whom hasn't caught on the fact that this mysterious S.I. officer is truthfully a Mysteron agent, and the Cloudbase interior a replica of the original, located in an abandoned warehouse.
