- Brother Justin is shown listening to Orson Welles as The Shadow on the radio. Although The Shadow premiered in 1930, Orson Welles didn't play the part until 1937 - three years after the 1934 setting of the show. James La Curto and Frank Readick Jr. alternated performing the role in '34.

- Lodz drinks absinthe in this episode, a common cause of blindness in the Parisian artistic culture of the late 1800s (think Toulous-Lautrec). Often called a dangerously addictive, psychoactive drug, it may be the cause of Lodz's blindness, revealed when he says to Ben, "I gave up my eyes for a fraction of what you possess."
- After the storm when Sofie returns to her car, the driver window is open, but there's no apparent dust inside. One would imagine there'd a decent coating, and she'd at least have to sweep the seat off!
- Since Apollonia can move objects as heavy as the trailer's door, why doesn't she shut the windows when the black blizzard hits?
- Why, after such a major dust storm, do all the vehicles start up again so easily? Wouldn't the accumulated dust make them inoperable until they were cleaned out?

- Apollonia's body was burnt to the bone, yet the tarot deck only got singed, except for its cover. And even though the cover got burnt, the string holding it together has not gotten burnt.

- The tarot card Ben saves from the fire is Le Passeur, which is French and means roughly either of these words: ferryman, boatman, smuggler.

- When Ben collected the deck of tarot cards the wind carried with it, at the top of the stack is Le Maison de Dieu which translated means The House of God. The interpretation of the card is danger, combat, war, destruction, and so on.
- The tarot card Ben catches when the wind carries them away is the Ace of Swords (As des Epees). Which stands for conquest, triumph, great force in love and hate.

- The card at the top of the stack that Sofie finds is the three of cups which means victory, fulfilment, solace, healing.
- Continuity: Just after Ben headbutts Geddes the mask maker and breaks his ceramic mask, we cut to a room shot with Geddes's voice overdubbed saying "You've heard of plaster of paris...". Unfortunately the mask is whole again in this shot, then once again broken in the next one.

Obviously an editting goof.
