Carole grew up in Northern California. She graduated from Yale University, then moved to New York City, studying acting with Terry Schreiber. In New York, she wrote sketch comedy for Mindfield, a comedy group which performed in clubs and cabarets in Manhattan, and began to write plays, two of which -- "Why the Beach Boys Are Like Opera" and "The Battle of Bull Run Always Makes Me Cry" -- have been published in anthologies. She then moved to Los Angeles to work as a television writer.
