Valerie: (Referring about her father) He used to say he stole his system from Dr. Dolittle.

This is in reference to Dr. Dolittle who could speak to animals. It was a book of the same name that was first printed in 1920. Several novels were published between 1920 and 1950. There was also three cartoon series, two stage productions and several film productions. The first starring Rex Harrison and the latter with Eddie Murphy. (edit)
