This is Kirstie Alley's first appearance as Rebecca Howe.
(edit)
Diane is mentioned several times by many characters in this episode.
(edit)
Kirstie Alley had only done serious roles before "Cheers". She was worried that people would think she couldn't do comedy. So when she went to tryout for the part of Rebecca, she did it dressed as Shelley Long, blonde wig and all.
(edit)
Writers Glen Charles & Les Charles earned an Emmy nomination for Best Writing in a Comedy Series for this episode.

Wayne: That drink does not exist.
Norm: There's been many a morning I wish to God it hadn't. (edit) Sam: This place doesn't even look like my office anymore.
Rebecca: Thank you. It wasn't easy. (edit) Rebecca: Miss Tortelli, you have a couple of customers in the corner that look like they're on the verge of a good time. You better hurry over there and put your usual stop to it. (edit) Carla: Yeah but don't go by me. I've hated every boss I've ever had.
Sam: How can you say that? I was your boss.
Carla: Yeah right. (edit) Frasier: So Carla, what did Eddie say about his impending fatherhood?
Carla: He wants to think about it. (edit)

It is mentioned that Diane's attempt to finish her novel failed and that she moved to Hollywood to write for TV.
(edit)
Rebecca blames the hijinks that caused Wayne to quit on "Sam and his Katzenjammer Kids." Katzenjammer Kids is the world's second oldest comic strip and is about brothers who rebel against authority with their hijinks.
