Cleavon Little was a versatile African-American actor born in Oklahoma on June 1, 1939 and raised in California where he attended San Diego College he was trained for performing career at the American Academy of Dramatic Art. Little Made his Broadway debut in the 1968 political satire MacBird and won a Tony award for the Broadway musical Purlie and that same year he became an ensemle player on the syndicated TV variety weekly The David Frost Revue. He landed his most memorable as a black sheriff in the Mel Brooks comedy Blazing Saddles (1974) beating out Richard Pryor for the part. In the 1980's, Little appeared in several TV shows such as The Fall Guy and MacGyver and in movies such as Once Bitten (1985) and Fletch Lives (1989). In the 90's Litthe had a recurring role as Sal on the show Bagdad Cafe. He passed away on October 22, 1992 of colon cancer.
