Quotes

Joan:Abe, forget Cleo. If two people are in love, the first kiss will just happen...like this.
Joan leans forward with lips puckered
Abe: Hahaha, thanks Joan. Your fake infatuation bit never fails to amuse. You should join an improv troop. (edit)
Joan: Abe! Don't get on that plane! I can't stand to not see you not make the biggest mistake of one of our lives! (edit)
Cleo: (to Abe) Part of you is inside of me. (edit)
(when Cleo is in Abe's locker)
Cleo: Surprise!
Abe: Ah! You're not my science book! (edit)
JFK: I'm doing my annual Fourth Of July album and laughing at gay lyrics (edit)

Trivia

add »
Aside from the handy zoom command on the VCR, both the VCR and the telephone have voice-recognition capabilities. Both machines are able to follow commands, while still being able to filter out and ignore regular conversation. (edit)
Goof: When Abe is talking on the phone to Ashley Angel and Cleo, there is a moon outside the window behind Cleo. Also, there is another moon in the doorway behind Ashley Angel. Both windows are on the same wall, and you can see both moons simultaneously. (edit)
Abe: He's like The Beatles and Jesus all rolled into one!
In July 1966, a newspaper quoted John Lennon of The Beatles incorrectly: 'We're more popular than Jesus'. This misquote outraged Christians and other religious groups, who began burning Beatles albums. (edit)
Scudworth is about to perform operations on John Adams, John Quincy Adams, Sam Adams, and Abigail Adams. These four are all from the same political family: Samuel helped start the American Revolution, his cousin John became president, Abigail was John's wife, and John Quincy, son of Abigail and John, also became president. (edit)
Gandhi: What a hilarious night!
When Gandhi comments on the party in the first episode, he seems to remember it positively. Aside from the non-alcoholic beer, Gandhi had to leap off the second-floor porch, was repeatedly struck by Joan with a taser, Joan stole his pants and he ended up in the back of a cop cruiser. It is strange that Gandhi remembers the party being hilarious, because he was the root of most of the comedy. (edit)

Allusions

add »
Great Expectations
Gate Expectations, the episode title, refers to Great Expectations, a novel by Charles Dickens. (edit)
JFK (to Gandhi): Say hello to the next Bubba Sparxxx!
Bubba Sparxxx is an American-Caucasian rapper. (edit)
Abe: He's like The Beatles and Jesus rolled into one!
The Beatles are a highly influential band from Liverpool during the 60's. (edit)
Ashley Angel: The girls who dance on these shows always achieve greatness. Look at Jenny McCarthy, and Maya Angelou.
Jenny McCarthy did indeed achieve greatness. Jenny is a former Playmate of the year, a writer, and an actress.

Maya Angelou also achieved greatness, but in different fields. Maya is an African-American poet and a civil rights activist. (edit)
Boy bands: While Gandhi and JFK discuss Ashley Angel from O-Town, they also mention N'SYNC, Backstreet Boys, 98º. These bands are popular boy bands from the 90's. (edit)
