Cloris became the mother-in-law of Sharon Stone when her son George Englund Jr married her. They are now divorced.

When studying for Elia Kazan in the 1950's, Cloris got to know Marlon Brando. She introduced him to her husband at the time, George Englund, and they got along so well that they later worked together on The Ugly American.

Cloris was awarded an honorary Doctorate in Fine Arts from Drake University in May 2006.

Cloris played the Slavic woman Grandma Ida on Malcolm in the Middle and was nominated for an Emmy in Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series six times for that part. She won twice, 2002 and 2006.

Cloris was nominated for a SAG Award for playing the wine-soaked, former jazz singer and grandmother Evelyn in the movie Spanglish.

Cloris Leachman: As soon as I realized that I didn't need meat to survive or to be in good health, I began to see how forlorn it all is. If only we had a different mentality about the drama of the cowboy and the range and all the rest of it. It's a very romantic notion, an entrenched part of American culture, but I've seen, for example, pigs waiting to be slaughtered, and their hysteria and panic was something I shall never forget.
