International Airdates:
- Denmark: April 11, 2007 on TV3+ (edit)
In a bit of "life imitating art", the adult Grant Hall was played by Don Swayze, whose older brother Patrick Swayze has proved himself a pretty good dancer in the films Dirty Dancing (1987) and One Last Dance (2003). Additionally, in the episode Maurice said his mother taught him how to dance. The Swayze brothers' mother is choreographer Patsy Swayze. (edit)
Don Swayze, who played the present-day Grant Hall, is only 10 years younger than Chris Mulkey, who played Pat Hall (Grant and Maurice's father). Don Swayze was born in 1958, which would mean he was 26 in 1984 – much older than his character. (edit)
Music Featured in This Episode:
- Heat of the Moment by Asia
- Behind the Mask by Luscious Redhead
- Self Control by Laura Branigan
- Through the Fire by Chaka Khan
- I'm Free (Heaven Helps the Man) by Kenny Loggins
- Ain't Nobody by Rufus feat. Chaka Khan
- I Want to Know What Love Is by Foreigner (edit)

Carlos: Dr. Leroy. The second abusive dad I never wanted. (edit)
Maurice: My mother taught me some things. She'd dance in the kitchen. I tried to keep up. (edit)
Scotty: (at the morgue) Always count on a warm atmosphere here.
Lilly: (looking at the bodies) You ever wonder if they're not really dead and all of a sudden they're gonna... sit up?
Scotty: That's not funny. (edit)
Scotty: Why didn't this girlfriend come up in the original investigation?
Grant Hall: I couldn't talk about her. My dad would've lost it.
Scotty: Cause Crystal was black?
Grant Hall: No, coz she was a dancer. (edit)
Det. Vera: Looked up your record, Carlos. You've got a looong history for using your fists freely.
Lilly: They got a word for that, sweetheart?
Carlos: Passionate.
Lilly: Homicidal. (edit)

Allusions

The plot of this episode might be inspired by the 2000 movie Billy Elliot, in which the titular leading character is also a boy who wants to become a dancer against the wishes of his working-class father. (edit)
Flashdance
When Dr. Leroy berates Maurice Hall in front of the dance class, he tells him, "This isn't the steel mill." This is a reference to the 1983 movie Flashdance, in which Jennifer Beals played a character who was a steelworker by day and dancer by night. (edit)

"Exactly why I watch this series"
This episode already had a gripping plot, but without Nathan Halliday it could not have been pulled off so well. Just goes to show what can be done with casting the right actors for the part. Cold Case is really good at that.
