The team reopens the 1999 "accidental" drowning of a military school swin coach when the team receives clues that suggest foul play was involved. I have to say that this episode is possibly one of the best episodes of both season 1 and the entire series, both plot and music-wise. The ending and beginning and ending songs were especially great. However, I'm not sure why they choose a 1994 song ("Machinehead") for a 1999 episode, but I then again they used a 1994 song ("Return to Innocence") as the ending song in "Sanctuary", a 1998 case. The ending song was a very haunting and beautful song: "Wise Up (It's Not Going To Stop)" and it fit well for the episode. The only thing I didn't get was "The Giants Are Coming/Returning". I know they mentioned its significance in a previous episode (Volunteers, I think?) but still. The Scotty-Elisa subplot was good though. You could see Scotty struggling with his relationship to Elisa, especially since she struggles with her problems (schizophrenia?). A truely great and classic "Cold Case" episode.

Exactly why I watch! hide show

This is why I watch the show and love it like I do. As an Army swim coach is murdered back in 1999. As it was ruled accidental but then it gets re-opened to a possible homicide. Meanwhile Scotty tries to find his girlfriend who is missing. Very good show and why again I watch!

In the 1995 movie Apollo 13, NASA Flight Director Gene Kranz (Ed Harris) says, "We've never lost an American in space and we're sure as hell not gonna lose one on my watch! Failure is not an option!" Gene Kranz did not actually say this during the real Apollo 13 mission, but he liked the line and used it as the title of his 2000 autobiography. []
