- I read on some site that Columbo's first name is Frank. It was strange to me because, as any Columbo fan knows, he never told his first name in the show. Do you know anything about this? Faye Dunaway's character in "It's all in the game" asked him what is his first name. He replied 'Lieutenant'.You must be registered and logged in to post a message.
What do you imagine his name is or what did you always think Columbo's first name should be? I try to put a name to him and nothing seems to fit. Joseph (Joe) Columbo, Anthony (Tony)? I guess Frank works but I wonder if there's a perfect name for him that would really work.
Maybe his name is Lou... Lou Tenant Columbo :-)

The myth that his name was Phillip came from a lawsuit brought against the creators of Trivial Pursuit by a guy who had written several books called Super Trivia which the makers of Trivial Pursuit plagerised tons of their questions from. In the court case it was revealed that the guy who wrote the Super Trivia books purposely fabricated Columbo's first name so he could spot the people who were copying his books. Since no one knew Columbo's name they finally had to admit that they stole the info from his book because since he was the one who made it up his book was the only possible source for that information..

I don't know what Columbo's first name was, but I think Joe Colombo would sound right. Giuseppe Columbo?

Right there in black and white, plain as the nose on my face, it says "Frank Columbo". Could this be a photo shop trick? I am quite sure that Columbo's first name was never spoken in any episode.
