I found it dull. Then again, I find reference humor incredibly and almost painfully dull. "Hey, we're making fun of a random show from the eighties!" "Hey, remember this show from the eighties? WE'RE LAUGHING AT IT LOL!!!!!!"

I find it kind of hard to laugh at repetitions of the same joke, like that obnoxious chicken one.

Are you talking about the chicken fight?... They did it twice. If you think a little more about the references you'd realize that they are harkening back to the shows that alot of us grew up watching.

Its like a giant Kevin Smith movie. Allusions to other stuff all around. Very interesting, and if you can look past the slapstick you'd see why its such a hit.

I don't think its humor is quite as well layered as South Park (which has grown into a great topical show with its quick production times). By layered I mean that on the top there is the slapstick/dick and fart jokes, but underneath there are all the fun allusions to literature, film and other tv shows as well.

I say its good, and if the language bothers you so much that you can't enjoy the rest of the show, you need to chill out and realize that they are just words, tools to conjur up emotions and ideas. Plus, they really aren't that bad.

All this talk of copying and cheap, tasteless humor, and formulaic plots and overkill on references is mind boggling. To me, if something entertains me, it's good. If it doesn't then it's bad. Family Guy Entertains me, when it comes to entertainment, the ends justify the means.

I agree. Family Guy is a copy of the Simpsons but at least on the Simpsons they don't make fun of good wholesome, funny tv shows like Gilmore Girls. They also don't feel the need to use terrible language and have characters with no clothes on a regular basis. Fox should dump that show before they get labeled as a bad television station. They really need the viewers so they should be more careful.

Good, wholesome funny TV shows like the Gilmore Girls? Ooohhh, bad language! Look at the bad show. Bad, bad show. Some people like humor that offends, which you'll only find on channels like Fox. Don't ruin it for the rest of us. Back to the debate. . . Good, but not as good as it used to be. They were more daring the first couple of seasons, especially right before they were cancelled the first time. I do agree that Simpsons has suffered and should be retired before its too late. American Dad is a bad Family Guy ripoff. The creator rips himself off, you think he's above ripping off others (the show does owe a lot to the Simpsons and can't compare to Simpsons in its prime). Anyway, recent episodes were funny (if not disturbing) so maybe its making a true comeback. I think they were trying too hard at first.

For the most part I agree. I think the point being made of Family Guy's offensiveness is moot. Some of the best comedy is offensive. Usually funnier than the formulaic, safe sitcoms usually offered.
But . . . I wouldn't compare it to Kevin Smith. Smith is a comic genius who knows how to balance irreverent humour with dick and fart jokes to create great comedic and usually dramatic, heartfelt stories (look at CHasing Amy). Family Guy can be a little too referential. There really are no stories, which dosen't bother me 'cause at times it can be hilarious. I think a lot of people miss out on some of the subtlety of some of the humor.
But it's no Kevin Smith movie. It's an entertaining diversion at best.

they started off copying simpsons and now it took its own path and simpsons look like there taking things from family guy. I think it is a great show and the only other cartoon/comedy thats can still compete with it is south park

I'd say good. It's not the best, but it is one of the funniest shows, and I don't think they copy The Simpsons.

    Let's compare, shall we?

    1) Destructive boy: Bart/Stewie
    2) Misunderstood, oft-ignored girl: Lisa/Meg
    3) Brainless father: Homer/Peter
    4) She married HIM?! wife: Marge/Lois
    5) Clueless boy characters: Rodd & Todd/Chris
    6) Moody old guy: Mr Burns/Herbert (the old pervert)

    Copy of "The Simpsons"?
    Naaaahhhhhh!
