From the producer of The Apprentice and Survivor comes a new unscripted series that will launch a competitive search for the next boxing superstar.

The Contender will follow 16 aspiring boxers from training camp through an evolving series of ring challenges and boxing matches over 16 episodes. For the first eight episodes, the winner of the fight-of-the-week will be rewarded with a guaranteed spot in the Quarter Finals. After four weeks of these Quarter Finals, two weeks of Semi-Finals will follow. In the show's last week, the final victor will claim a $1,000,000 prize. The driving force behind the series will be the pursuit of the American dream and the natural trials, tribulations and heartbreak inherent in that quest combined with the drama and tension of the sweet science. The canvas of the show is much broader than boxing - it will give viewers a first hand look into the real life hopes, triumphs and defeats of the contestants. The Contender will be a joint production of Mark Burnett Productions, DreamWorks Television and Rogue Marble. Sylvester Stallone, Mark Burnett, and Jeffrey Katzenberg are the executive producers.

NBC cancelled The Contender in May of 2005 after only one season. After three months of shopping around, Mark Burnett finally sold it to ESPN. The sports cable channel will begin airing the series in the Spring of 2006. ESPN has the option of picking the series up for an extra two seasons.

  If you are reading this and know the answer, please reply. On an earlierepisode of the Contender, Oscar DeLa Hoya and Sugar Ray made a bet there fighters would win on the PPV match. The loser would have to walk around the cage taking the place of a 'ring-girl' on the night of the fight. Oscar even went as far as to pick the color pink for Ray's tutu that night. ....So which team won, and more importantly, who wore the TUTU? REPLY PLEASE!!!!!:roll: less «

  Max Alexander is an absolute fraud. The dude got knocked out in the first round by a bum named Marty Lindquist. The only reason he could say he was 14-0 was because Marty failed a drug test. Max looked weak and pathetic. Sam should win this season. I love Sam's style. He is a great fighter. Sam Soliman : This guy Anthony Mundine must be seriously under rated, or Sam looked better than he should have again a fraud named Max Alexander. Either way, let's see how this season folds out. I cannot see anyone in that house beating Sam. Sam is the man. He is the man to beat. 8) Jaidon Codrington: Though a much better fighter than Max The Fraud, he has a super glass chin. I don't see this guy beating either Sam The Man or Sakio Bika. In fact, Paul Smith might be able to beat this guy. David and Wayne might also be able to beat this guy.   When they were picking the semi-finals just after Bika placed his name on the board there's a shot of Sugar Ray standing in front of the board and at the edge of the picture you can see that Codrington's name has already been placed in the final.

  Great show for those who box and love competition. hide « show »

  The Contender is a great show but i believe it is missing one thing...ME...Next season they should come to Norfolk, VA at the East Coast Boxing gym looking for Andrew Benton to bring ratings through the roof!!!! Most of these boxers on on t.v so they can be famous, while thats not a bad idea they make people who really love the sport look bad. They go in there looking to fight and win the prize, to me the prize is winning the fight. Boxing is a craft, a finess not a hobby. If i were on the show I'd show people what they came to watch, great boxing not a brawl...

  Amazing! hide « show »

  I have to say that I have only watched season 1, and then watched the odd episode off season 2.
  
  In New Zealand, Series 1 and 2 got a good timeslot so I watched those 2 seasons completely. But season 3 didnt, so I never ended up watching it half the time. I guess it didnt get good enough ratings second time round and they dropped it into a later timeslot.
  
  Season 1 was great, I loved the presence of Sly and of course Sugar Ray on the show, they really know what theyre on about and I just loved them.
  
  Also each and every fighter made the show more interesting, some more than others, like the "big talkers", but each of them was great.

  I was very impressed with the 1st 3 seasons, I was never a boxing fan until this show came on, I think it's the best reality show ever and I hope they continue this show. I can't seem to get enough, I watch each episode over and over again until the next show would come on. I really hope this show comes back.I think Sugar Ray Lenard and Sylvester stalone should get back together and continus to work to make the show even better, if that is possible. The stories behind the boxers lives and struggles really get you picking favorates and cheering them on. I am usually on the edge of my seat at fight time, great, exciting show, please keep it going.

  personally coming from a girl who boxed her whole life this was an amazing show that even i learned stuff from when i thought i knew everything. hide « show »

  The way the fights were the way you matched them it all fell into place perfect. You taught them stuff that they didn't even know and i must say it helped me with my coaching to, it turned out to be very a good show that i had all my friends interested in even people who didn't really know anything about boxing was interested in watching it and we always looked forward to it. i think and a lot more people i know here in Newfoundland Canada thinks you guys should start a whole new season of it. sincerely Kelly Hunt and all her friends in Newfoundland, Canada

  I watch the Contender Every time its on. Why? Because it something I would love to do, it gives me Inspiration, and makes me feel like that things can be done if you put your mind to the task. If I could I would love to be part of the Contender. hide « show »

  I dont know if Sugar Ray reads these as he is prob really busy, but I can tell you, he is the Best. Everytime he Talks, he talks with sence, and honesty. He is a Boxer that will take on anyone, and someone I admire very much. I do Have something to say to him and Slyvester... Get your Butts here to NEW ZEALAND!!! lol Cheers
