Earth has fallen to the Machine Empire (Originally seen in Galaxy Express 999). In order to preserve the peace human captain Zero is given a ship crewed by both humans and Machine men with the mission to hunt down the space pirate Captain Harlock.

The true challenges that wait for Zero is the challenge of getting his Human and Machine crewmembers to work together, despite their bigotry towards each other. Also, Zero discovers that Harlock is not truly his enemy as another force interferes, and maybe the biggest challenge of all is that maybe Humans and Machine Men don't have to be enemies.
