Episode Summary

An anesthesiologist who worked in a beauty clinic is discovered swinging from a rope in his two-story condo, but the investigation points to murder, not suicide. The case intensifies when it's learned that the doctor lost a patient the week before during routine plastic surgery and that the victim's husband believes she was killed.

Two connected stories - the death of a cosmetic surgery anaesthetist and the death of a woman on his operating table. Not the best every, but Khandi Alexander gets to have more scenes and that's never a bad thing. hide show

I'm surprised at the low ratings for this episodes. It's not an absolute classic by any means, but it's really actually very good and opens out Alexx's character more. Malpractice and the need for women to improve their looks to combat the ageing process are the main themes, but there's also jealousy, the need for justice and a lot of fun pieces.

A doctor is killed - a staged suicide - and all clues point immediately to a guy whose wife died on the operating table, who is now suing for malpractice. The man is convinced that his wife was killed because of someone's mistakes and Alexx seems to back up his story, because nothing went that well at the time. The ending is very moving really, once the truth is revealed. Elizabeth Lackey as the nurse who's also being sued is wonderful - she has a real presence that works well.

Kudos also to Kristy Swanson for taking on a role that requires her to admit in character to all kinds of cosmetic procedures that she may or may not have actually undertaken herself. Hopefully she's just naturally beautiful.

The only thing I didn't like - and it worked for the episode - was poor old Alexx being lumbered with extra autopsies because of the greasy, too-quick-to-judge Glen.

He was sexual with one of his patients. The man had a patient who died on him. The husband went in the doc's apartment to rough him up a little but found him dead already. For 5 minutes the woman was in shock and nobody did anything for her. The other doc has sap (Honey Dew) all over his shoes. The killer was the nurse. The nurse and Carlos had a relationship and she saw the ciggarette with lip stick and got pissed.

This episode takes us into the world of plastic surgery & the things that can go wrong. hide show

This episode reminded me of the CSI Las Vegas episode "Crows Feet" but I think that this one came first.

A plastic surgeon is found dead & hanging from the railings on top of the stairs in his apartment. Right away it's obvious that it wasn't suicide as it was thought but murder.

Alexx refers to the scene in the movie Pulp Fiction where Mia (Uma Thurman) had sniffed strong heroin and was dying. They stab her in the chest with a sizeable shot of adrenaline (even though this is not a method used to treat heroin overdoses). []
