Mac receives a phone call confessing to an old murder before the caller commits suicide. The call leads the team to a football stadium to uncover a body and they learn the suicide victim belongs to the Tanglewood gang. They also find a cigarette that puts Danny's job on the line after his DNA is found on it.
Stella and Danny investigate the death of a businessman who used the services of an expensive call girl.
I really enjoyed this episode, although I could have done without the cliff-hanger ending. Since I am watching Season 2 after having seen 3 and 4, I know what's coming in that area and I thought the ending took a wee bit away from the show - not much though.
We had been left wondering from several episodes why Sonny Sassone was so cocky about getting off and here we find out. There are several wonderful moments in this episode and the two that stuck with the most are 1) when Mac tells Danny that anything he says is testimony and Danny responds by saying he needs a friend and not a boss and 2) when Mac visits Danny outside the hospital after he has seen his brother in a coma. In that moment, Mac is a true friend. What a wonderful role model of a good man: one is a tough ex-Marine and boss and can also comfort someone in a time of need. Beautifully done.
Very intense episode. hide show
What a great and intense episode. We meet the Tanglewood Boys again and find out that Louie, Danny's brother, is one of them. One member of the Tanglewood Boys killed himself and gave Mac a hint where to find a dead boy. The case is really interesting, and when we find out that the cigarette that was found next to the dead body is from Danny, it becomes very dramatic. But then Louie is beaten up by the Tanglewood Boys after getting a statement from Sonny Sassone, who confessed the murder of the boy. Danny isn't guilty (What else did we expect?) But he also finds out that his brother had only wanted to protect him in this one night. The scene of Danny standing next to Louie's hospital bed, telling his brother he loves him and later cries in front of Mac- that was incredibly intense.
This was a fantastic storyline and a great way to find out more about Danny and his relationship to his brother.
Absolutely beautiful and moving. hide show
I'm not going to even pretend there was a B case on this one. The A case was pure gold. We finally get a follow-up on the Tanglewood storyline. About time, too. Danny (or Carmine, whatever) shone in this epi. You could tell right away that he wanted to stay away from the whole situation, but Sassone dragged him into it. Still, he remained as tough as he could. Seeing such raw emotion coming from him was heart-wrenching. I shook for nearly an hour after the hospital scene. Still, Mac was there for him, like a good boss/friend should. Even over a year later, this episode stays with me. Not a day goes by that I don't give it at least a moment's consideration.
Carmine Giovinazzo Shines ! hide show
Loved the ominous phone ringing in Mac's office at the start of the eppy.Love the teamwork with Jersey CSI - - LOVED how Mac believed Danny from the get go. Mac confronting Louie, who was and still is protecting Danny. Mac showing his frustration at knowing Danny's innocence but being unable to prove it show his level of concern. GREAT scene when Stella reminded Mac that "we are never out of evidence. Now the Dead Banker case nothing too out of the ordinary but the one thing I picked up on, what do you do when you walk into a dark room, turn on the light, Stella immediately used her flashlite instead. Stella had her suspect and let him go, though she didn't know it at the time. Melanie hitting on Stella was kinda funny. Loved Stella and Adam in reconstruction. Thought it was really gross that the murder was using the same oyster shucker on food that he used in the murder. Loved how Stella was empathic when making the arrest. I loved Carmine's work in this episode, award caliber for sure.
All the confidence between Danny and Lindsay is shown in this chapter!! When she receives the results she looks shocked! Then She pages Danny and he appears asking if she is all right, so sweet, and then..BOOM!! The results!!! I love the fact that she hadn't told anyone only him!! And when he gives the badge to the cop she looks so worried and He seems to be thinking that He had disappointed her, but It is clear that He is not mad at her!! I hate that in a whole Danny chapter we have to end with Stella and the Internet!! I think it had been a better ending to see the hug between Mac and Danny!!
