The team examines the murder of an avid Boston Red Sox fan found dead with a ruptured spleen following a tough loss against New York. Danny must put his baseball skills to the test to piece together the evidence as the CSIs try to find out how and why he was murdered. Meanwhile, after testifying in a murder trial, Mac is confronted by the defendant, Quinn Sullivan, who questions the validity of the evidence. Mac is torn between trusting science or his desire to help a man facing jail time who swears he's innocent. Also, when a truck kills a barely clad woman early one morning, the team investigates why she was running through the streets and from whom. Read full recap »

  • Goof: On more than one occasion throughout the show, Gilbert Novotny is incorrectly referred to as George Novotny. Two specific examples include the conversation between Bonasera, Hawkes and Parsons in the morgue, and also the scene where Messer and Taylor are preparing to test their theory on a crime scene. edit »
  • Danny Messer's story of playing in the minors and then leaving due to an injury parallels actor Carmine Giovinazzo's own life. However, in real life, Carmine Giovinazzo was forced to leave the game due to a back injury, not an injured wrist. edit »
  • The baseball stadium shown in this episode is not Yankee Stadium. It is actually San Fransico's 3Com Park (formerly Candlestick Park), the football stadium where the 49ers play. Interestingly, the last time baseball was played there was 1999. edit »
  • Michael Clarke Duncan and Gary Sinise both starred together in The Green Mile. edit »
  • Music Featured:
    Erase You by DJ Shadow.
Don't Stop Now by Lemon Jelly. edit »
  • German episode title: Seitenwechsel, meaning Switching Sides.

Spanish episode title: El Pitcher, meaning The Pitcher. edit »
  • Stella: Why haven't you taken your wedding ring off?
    Mac: Because, uh, I don't know. I don't want to. edit »
  • Mac: When the towers fell, and Claire died, it was the clearest definition of what is unjust, and unfair, in this world, and I was powerless. edit »
  • (Examining the female who was hit by a car)
Mac: No clothes, no shoes, no handbag, just lace.
Stella: If this is the new look for spring, you can count me out. edit »
  • (Danny just had a chase scene with Tony Reanetti. Tony climbed a fence and Danny lept up and caught him.)
Danny: Alright, easy, easy! If there's one thing I hate more than running… leaping. You're not my favorite person today, come on. edit »
  • Aiden: How does a potential short stop become a crime scene investigator?
Danny: That's real easy, get into a fight, break your wrist, and then graduate from the police academy top of my class.
    Aiden: Dangerous, Danny Messer.
    Danny: Very dangerous. edit »
