Grissom: What did you find out about the psych exam on the little girl?
Sara: The shrink says the kid is in a catatonic state from a trauma. I
could've told you that. But she did respond to the name "Buffalo."
Grissom: Respond how?
Sara: She freaked out. (Catherine stares at Sara and takes a deep breath)
Grissom: And... what are you doing about it now? (Sara nods as she looks at Grissom)
Sara: Going back to the girl. (beat) I left her in the car. (Grissom looks at her. Catherine can't believe what she's hearing) The windows are cracked. (Grissom stares at Sara, absolutely no expression on his face. Sara breaks out into a smile and stands up) Give me a little credit. She's at the hospital. (Warrick snickers at the fast one Sara just pulled on Grissom and Catherine.
Nick also smiles appreciatively. Grissom turns to look at Catherine. Catherine stares)
(edit)
(Catherine's pager goes off)
Catherine: That would be Grissom.
Eddie: How is your boyfriend?
Catherine (unamused): Ed. (edit)
(Grissom shuts off the lights to check evidence, and not knowing Warrick was in the room, ther'e a thud and Warrick swears)
Warrick: You need to tell somebody when you're cutting the lights.
Grissom: What, are you working for OSHA now? (edit)
Grissom: Hey, stop! Evidence! (Det. O'Riley stops and changes his course, staying off of the main floor and on the sides of the room)
Det. O'Riley: We got to hug the wall? This is the only room with no blood in it. There's nothing to disturb.
Grissom: You guys will never get it, will you? (edit)
(Seeing a couple officer's throwing up)
Grissom: What's wrong with your two guys? Det. O'Reilly: They've been inside.
(Grissom looks at the house and sighs) (edit)

Trivia

add »
Factual error: The show falls into the Hollywood myth on polygraphs. Jesse is given a polygraph test after pleading guilty to the 4 murders. He answers all questions, except the last one, honestly. The 4 traces on the polygraph show no real movement on these questions. On the final question, Jesse lies and all 4 traces spike. If polygraphs actually did that, they would be admissible in court. But the reality is, it is the opinion of a highly trained operator that decides if there is a lie. The average person could not look at a polygraph results and point out a lie. There is no huge, visible spike. The producers could have replaced the 4 traces with a redgreen light: Green is an honest answer and red a lie. (edit)
Although Grissom states that there are 3 things he truly hates in "Friends & Lovers" (a husband beating his wife, child abuse and "scumbags" that sell dope to the kids) he doesn't seem to be moved or pissed by the fact that Mr. Collins abused both Brenda and Tina (edit)
Grissom contradicts himself in this episode. In the pilot, he says it is only the how that matters, not the why. Yet, in this episode, when they figure out the how, Grissom is not satisfied, and keeps working until he figure out the why. (edit)
Dakota Fanning speaks only two words in this episode: "The buffalo." (edit)
At the end, when Tina is shown the photos of Brenda they are in a pile of three. The camera cuts to a long shot and there are two in a row. Cut back to Tina and they are a pile of three again. This happens on and off throughout the scene. (edit)

Grissom: What, you're working for OSHA?

OSHA, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, is a federal agency that enforces job saftey and health legislation. (edit)
Again something a CSI says is acted out- Grissom quotes Lady Macbeth and it is later shown that the older daughter was the mind behind the killings- that she had planned it all- much like (many believe) Lady Macbeth had spurred Macbeth to kill Duncan. (edit)
When Sara and Grissom are inspecting the house, Sara asks Grissom if he thinks this is a cult, like the Manson killings. Charles Manson had a "hippie" cult following where they killed several people, notably the first being Sharon Tate, filmmaker Roman Polanski's wife. One of the killers (Susan Atkins) is quoted as saying "Because we wanted to do a crime that would shock the world, that the world would have to stand up and take notice."

In the beginning when the teenage daughter is running from the house screaming frantically for help- it is akin to the reaction of Tate's housekeeper, who upon finding the scene of the house, ran around the neighborhood screaming. (edit)
Grissom refers to a piece of evidence as a "Lady MacBeth" citing her quote "out, out damn spot". Ironically Grissom uses the quote to indicate evidence completely lacking any sign of blood, whereas Lady MacBeth is referring to the reverse: blood stains that cannot be hidden or washed away. (edit)
Grissom paraphrases Shakespeare's "MacBeth". The actual quote from the play is "Who would have thought the old man to have had so much blood in him?" The line is spoken by Lady MacBeth in her mad scene and refers to her role in the murder of King Duncan. MacBeth killed the king, but Lady MacBeth planted the false evidence (which certainly wouldn't win her any fans in a CSI lab). (edit)
