TRIVIA

  • Goof: As Grissom enters the cage in which the woman is found, he goes to the wastebasket to examine the pen that rolled on the floor. As he first picks it up, he grasps it right at the point where the black grip section meets the gray barrel section. As the shot changes and he continues bringing it up to examine it, he is now grasping it near the end of the gray barrel. As it is supposed to be a continuous shot (conversation is uninterrupted the entire time), there is no time for him to change his hand position. edit »
  • The CSI team determine a woman died after accidentally ingesting ricin (which she tried to use to kill someone else). She died within minutes of sticking her ricin covered pen into her mouth. According to the CDC, death by ingestion of ricin will occur within 36-72 hours (depending on potency, amount, etc.), not a matter of minutes. And, death could not have been from inhalation during her manufacturing of the ricin. They make it a point to show her burnt-looking tongue as the place where ricin was introduced to the body. edit »
  • Goof: In the final reconstruction of the train victim's last moments, there is a shot of her left profile in her car. You can clearly see a California lottery sign in the window of a store behind her.

    Naturally, Nevada merchants would not have California lottery signs in their windows. edit »
  • Goof: The size and shape of the brushguard on the Ford Excursion they are investigating changes many times throughout the scene edit »
  • Goof: The Ford Excursion, the car that pushed the Jeep Cherokee onto the railroad tracks, blew a headlight out during the impact. However, when the CSIs were examining the Excursion, it had a full frontal brushguard. Assuming that was in place during the crash, how would the headlight have broken? edit »

ALLUSIONS

  • Grissom: Yet she must die else she betray more men. Put out the light, and then put out the light.

    This is a quote from The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice, ACT V SCENE II: ...Yet I'll not shed her blood;
    Nor scar that whiter skin of hers than snow,
    And smooth as monumental alabaster.
    Yet she must die, else she'll betray more men.
    Put out the light, and then put out the light:

    If I quench thee, thou flaming minister...
    I can again thy former light restore... edit »
  • Nick: Autistic? What, you mean like Rain Man?

    Rain Man (1988) was a movie about an incredibly gifted man with autism, much like the subject in the case that Grissom was investigating. edit »
