Warrick: The shoe tread I found at the scene--it's a World Industries Diablo. It's a skate shoe. Size 11.
Brass: On a construction worker?
Warrick: Screams teenager, I know. (edit) Nick: Don't you hate it when hello turns to gunfire? (edit) Grissom: Well, clean surfaces make for good analysis.
Brass: Yeah, well that may be the only good thing. (edit) (As Sara's collecting the hammers)
Guy: I'll trade you my hammer for a screw. (All the construction workers laugh)
Sara: Name, please.
Guy: I'll tell you mine, you tell me yours. (Sara stares at him) Oh, come on, baby. I'm stuck with these ugly fools all day. A pretty girl comes by, just having a little fun.
Sara: Yeah, murder always makes me feel a little randy, too.
Guy: Ooh. (Guy puts his hammer into Sara's bag) (edit) Grissom: Are these... Spaghetti-oh's?
Sara: I don't think so.
Greg: Nah, no. Those are orthodontic rubber bands. Hook 'em up to your braces uh... upper to lower, helps pull the jaw in the right direction. Also great for flinging. (everyone looks at him) I had it all - palate expander, braces, retainer, headgear. Five years of torture, but worth every penny, don't you think? (smiles broadly) (edit)

The CD that Warrick picks up is "Everything You Want" by Vertical Horizon.

This episode has four teenagers beat a contemporary to death with hammers, following a practice session with a pile of water melons. The boy is beaten to death sometime during the weekend, probably on Saturday. Prior to that is the practice session with the melons, which must be Friday evening at the latest. The room with the melons is searched on a school day, Monday at the earliest. Yet the melons, in all that Nevada heat after lying around for three days, are still fresh looking, and there are no flies or other insects swarming over the juicy remains.

Nick was able to determine how far the fatal shot was fired from by how fast the bullet was traveling when it entered her body. Yes, if a bullet is fired straight (->), it will slow down to a certain point. And yes, if fired at an angle, the bullet will travel farther. But, if a bullet is fired at an upward angle, it would travel at two speeds (vertical & horizontal velocity). Theoretically, the horizontal velocity should have remained constant (except for the minimal air resistance), while the vertical velocity would have decelerated, stopped, and then re-accelerated with gravity. And since the bullet actually went into the woman's chest from above, the horizontal velocity would not have made a difference, and the vertical velocity would have been exactly the same when the bullet reached its target as when it was first fired.

Gallagher is a comedian who smashes watermelons and lots of other foods using a trademark tool called the "sledge-o-matic" Brass mentions him.....
