  • Goof: When Sara wipes embalming fluid from the face of the female victim found in the dumpster, victim can be seen blinking, though she is supposed to be dead. edit »

  • From this episode on in the series, there is a change to the credit sequence. Some of the shots have been re-ordered, the font used has changed and Jorja Fox is now fifth in line of reference, whereas in 2, 3 & 4 she was third. edit »
  • First apperance (David Berman) who plays assistant coroner David Phillips, is also the chief researcher for the show. edit »
  • (Warrick and Grissom sit side by side as they watch police car drive away. Grissom stands up and walks off)
    Warrick: Where you going?
    Grissom: Away. edit »
  • Kimberley Cassano: I can tell you right now we’re going to plead diminished capacity.
Grissom: Good, I hope you win.
    Bobby: Doesn’t matter.
Kimberley Cassano: It’s the difference between prison and a hospital, Bobby. It matters.
Bobby: You don’t understand. I don’t care what happens to me. I killed my best friend. edit »
  • Grissom: Let me tell you something, Humbert. You're twice the age of these kids and most of them couldn't find their ass with a map. You prey on innocent children concocting god-knows-what from god-knows-where selling Russian roulette in a bottle and you think we came all the way out here to bust you for "possession", you dumb punk? (beat) I'm gonna get you for murder. (Ethan looks back at Grissom, surprised) Cool. edit »
  • David (flusters): I, uh, I just want to say I-I...well, I really admire the gusto with which you approach your job. (David walks around and stands in front of Sara. He smiles)
Sara (glances from the monitor to David): Are you hitting on me, David?
David: Uh... (David smiles and looks down at his shoes bashfully. Sara is flattered)
Sara: Let me give you some friendly advice. If you want to pull chicks, you've got to get aggressive. You've gotta drop the glasses, lose the coat grow some scruff. (David appears quietly dejected at the advice)
Sara (smiles): You do get a "C" for cute, though. edit »
  • (Warrick and Catherine walk into Grissom's office after he's been interrupted many times, by his cell phone and stuff)
Catherine: Hey, you want to give us our assignments or do you want us to
take... the night off? (Grissom adjusts the light)
Grissom (irritated): Paperwork, paper clips, paper-punchers-- all these people want me to do is push paper; nobody wants me to solve crimes.
Catherine: Hey, (shrugs)...you could've turned the job down.
Grissom: Yeah, the grass is always greener, Catherine. (Grissom adjusts the light again, not making a move to get up. Catherine waits a moment, then reaches out to help him)
Catherine: Well let's just hurry this up. (she grabs the lamp and pulls it down into the pan below. It immediately catches fire. Grissom sighs)
    Warrick: Cool.
Catherine: You really want to see flash paper flash? Walk in on a bookie.
Grissom: That's what this was about-- bookies. (Grissom's phone rings again. Catherine turns and walks over to Grissom's desk)
Catherine: Don't answer it. (she grabs the assignment sheets off of the desk and hands them to Grissom) We've got work to do... boss. edit »

  • Grissom: Benihana the maggots.

A reference to the famous Japanese chain of restaurants, where food is freshly prepared by very skilled chefs in front of guests. Everything is freshly chopped and cooked at a Hibachi Grill in a very theatrical style. Grissom is telling Warrick he needs to slice and dice a maggot in order to get out the good stuff inside it basically! edit »
  • Grissom: Let me tell you something Humbert...

Said by Gil to Ethan the jimson tea drug seller, followed by more lines about him picking on and exploiting those much younger than him. Humbert Humbert was the main character in Vladimir Nabokov's famously controversial novel Lolita about a much older man becoming sexually obsessed with a twelve-year old girl. edit »
  • Funeral Director: I see the world from a completely different perspective than most people.
Sara: Yeah I know, you see dead people, so do I.

A clever reference to the famous 'I see dead people' line from 1999s The Sixth Sense by M. Night Shyamalan. edit »
  • Catherine: The walls in his office look like the Dean went a couple rounds with Mike Tyson.

Mike Tyson is the former World Heavyweight Champion and the youngest man to win a heavyweight title belt. Mike Tyson is probably best known for biting off another boxer's ear during a boxing match. edit »
