During the year preceding the creation of this episode, famed NFL Quarterback Michael Vick was arrested for his association with an illegal dog-fighting ring, which was almost certainly the genesis for the topic of the show, since dog-fighting was very much in the news at the time. A reference to the TV show Survivor, in which an immunity idol guarantees that the holder cannot be voted off the show. (edit) Lying Down With Dogs is also the title of a book (subtitled A Personal Portrait of a Polish Exile) by Mark Zygadlo about his father who was a Polish soldier in World War II.
