No surprise here! If you really think about it, CSI has been very lucky in that it's been on for 8 years and every single actor who began the series has remained with it up until just recently. Hey, nothing lasts forever.

I can't lie I'm more in love with the mood, setting, and tone of the show than any individual actor but I have to say. It's going to take someone really good to keep me with the show and the rest of the audience. On Criminal Minds they barely missed a beat when Mandy Patankin left so I know it's possible.

I knew I recognized your name but couldn't place it. Ya know, when Mandy Patinkin left I wasn't too sure about how it would be received because I really liked him but you're right, they didn't miss a beat. And as much as I love and miss MP I wasn't about to stop watching. At the end of the day it's just a dam good show. I guess I feel the same way about CM as you do about CSI. The only difference here though is that this is the 3rd main character to leave and in a relatively short period of time. I think they may have to reinvent CSI to save it. But I'm sure they can and will do just that.

Interesting part of that article, "Petersen's exit will mark the latest blow to the procedural's original main lineup, which lost Jorja Fox and Gary Dourdan last season-although both will be making appearances in coming episodes (one more posthumous than the other).

"We do have a plan," Mendelsohn added, assuring fans that there will be blood-both new blood and the regular DNA-filled, splattering kind-to make Petersen's pending departure less painful."

While I like Grissom, I really didn't miss him during the previous few seasons when WP did his little hiatus. The cast is big enough to not really be affected. Just means more screen time for the rest.

I hope they can. I'm just not ready for it to end. I think it's great that Criminal Minds continued to do well after Mandy Patinkin's departure. The thing is, a lot of people love Gil Grissom, just like Sara Sidle and Warrick Brown. With popular characters leaving a show, sometimes fans of those characters just stop watching. I hope that's not the case with CSI and I hope the writers and producers can make up for that void. I will still watch because I do love the show, and for the fact that (as much as I like them) Grissom and Sara weren't the only characters on CSI.

NOOOOO!!!!!

Well, I can't actually say I'm surprised. With three members of the cast gone, who knows what's gonna happen now?

William Peterson is an amazing actor however, and I wish him all the best.

I wouldn't go as far as to say the show is done. If Law and Order can survive with losing major actors every three years, I'm sure that CSI will find a way to survive without WP. As much as I like Gil's character, he's not the main reason I watch the show. I didn't miss him all that much when wasn't around a few years ago and I'm sure I won't miss him when is character finally leaves the show.

Just wont be the same.... he is Mr.CSI, well at least on screen. Still the show needs a revamp, not as badly as Miami, but still last seasons (8 ) midsection was of a lower standard than what Id expect from such a great show. Onwards and upwards, maybe Mandy will be the new lead. Id like to see Catherine not get it and argue with the newlead. Also like to see Nick promoted and Gil go out after taking the undersheriff out with a shotgun... well ok maybe just find the evidence to lock him up! Oh and fingerscrossed Hodges is unleashed onto the unsuspecting streets of LV!

Yea I know... hopefully they'll give him one HECK of an ending... and things will be interesting. But if not, I certainly won't be watching anymore (a little over the top maybe, but I just like the show as is -- and I do know that nothing lasts forever... but still it just won't be the same).

Yea I'm curious to see what they do in terms of that. And hopefully it's a good one.

The show may not be able to take this big a hit. But I dunno if the replacment will be good.

Yeah, I just read it on yahoo portal...

Csi will probably lose its charm after really... the main character leaves the show.

I agree, on one hand you know that a new show could never take this kind of a hit - the loss of 3 main characters so close together. On the other hand a veteran show like CSI should theoretically be able to recover from something like this. The caveat being the show has been on for 8 years so maybe people were growing a little tired of it to begin with and this loss might finally push viewers away. The length of time CSI has been on air is kind of working for and against it, if that makes sense. Then again, people like me who already had one foot out the door and the other on a banana peel might stick around just to see how this all shakes out. But I gotta say ~ they are going to have to pull out all the stops.

I think CSI may survive another few years without WP but i'm not sure it should no disrespect for the other actors but Grissom is the star and by far the best character in the whole franchise.

In my opinion i feel it should end after season 10 whether Petersen was still there or not, i believe that would be as good a time as any to end it.

On the other hand it could breath new life into the show.

I don't know about ya'll, but I feel kind of deceived.. When I found out that WP re-signed his contract for another year, I was so excited because honestly I thought he would have been gone years ago (with the way he talked..), and we could all mentally prepare for his departure. Now, though, we only get ten episodes and much less time to mentaly prepare.. Say day!!
