A roller coaster runs off its track, leaving six people dead. The CSI team investigates whether this was an accident or foul play. Lipzig: Client (edit)
The rollercoaster/murder weapon is 'portrayed' by The Screaming Mummy at Pharaoh's Lost Kingdom in Redlands, California. (edit)
This episode was originally titled "A Turn of the Screws" and then "A Screw Turned Loose" before being titled "Turning of the Screw". After going through so many titles, they decided to stick with the original (but dropped the "a") and titled it "Turn of the Screws". (edit)

Nick (After seeing two teens have sex on the roller coaster): Well, so much for safe sex ! (edit)
Nick: Well, there goes my theory. No one tampers with their sex machine. (edit)
Greg: I found something a little unusual for a roller coaster. Not a sailor but a...
Sara: Semen. Sex on the roller coaster?
Greg: Or some kid shaking hands with Shorty.
Grissom: The release of epinephrine and adrenaline while riding a roller coaster can produce a stimulatory effect. It enhances ejaculation.
Greg: Right. (edit)
(Ms. Press just confessed she killed her own daughter)
Ms. Press: Justin was the best thing in my life.
Catherine: No. Your daughter was the best thing in your life. (Cathrine gets up, disgusted, and heads for the door)
Ms. Press: You didn't know her.
Catherine: I do know that she was 13. A child. (walks out the door) (edit)
Woody: Oh, I just hope they don't blame the coaster. It may not be the
Manhattan Express at New York, New York or the Desperado in Primm, but it-it... it still makes grown men scream.
Grissom: My first week in Vegas, I rode the Desperado.
Woody: My first coaster marathon. I rode that monster for a week straight.
Grissom: Hmm. The Steel Phantom, Kennywood Park, Pennsylvania -- I actually hold the marathon record there.
Woody: Uh, uh. My-my favorite's still the, um, King's Island. The Beast.
Grissom: Mm. I presented a paper at an entomology convention in Cincinnati
just so I could ride Son of Beast. Head over heels on a wooden track.
Woody: Ah. So, you prefer wood over steel?
Grissom: No. Not really. For me, it's not about the track. (smiles) It's about the thrill. (edit)

Trivia

add »
We are reminded about Grissom's love for riding rollercoasters in this episode. Previously, in Season 1's 'Too Tough To Die', Griss mentions that he enjoys rollercoasters when he discusses how Sara is burning herself out emotionally from work. (edit)
If the park was in financial trouble, the Egyptian costumes for the employees are more likely to be sold off and replaced with more generic, and less expensive, polo shirts, rather than cutting back on hours for the maintainance men. Also, when parks want to cut back on costs, they might not open some of the least popular rides on slow days. (edit)
They say the little girl, Tessa, has been dead for over 24 hours, then she said she hadn't seen her for several nights. When asked when she last seen her daughter she replied "yesterday morning" (edit)
When Grissom is talking to Woody about his love for riding rollercoasters, that it doesn't matter the kind of track but the thrill you get, you can interpretate this as a metaphor to the way he lives his job and his life. (edit)
The concept of a 'coaster date' is either impossible, or not worth the effort. No matter what ride is chosen, there must always be someone at the control panel because the control system requires that the ride operator of a rollercoaster must press and hold down a button to dispatch the cars. Therefore, either someone must stay behind, or a third person would have to be present, which does not seem to have been what either Cleopatra or the deceased wanted. (edit)

Allusions

add »
The Manhattan Express rollercoaster is located at the New York, New York hotel and casino. Which is located in Las Vegas, it's actually on the strip. (edit)
The Desperado is located at Buffalo Bill's Casino and Resort in Primm, Nevada. Just outside of Las Vegas. (edit)
Kennywood Park is located in downtown Pittsburgh, Pa. The rollercoaster Grissom held the record for(The Steel Phantom) was replaced a couple of years ago with The Phantom's Revenge. It doesn't go upside down like the previous coaster. (edit)
Lisa Hunt/Cleopatra: Five years ago when I was a pre-frosh, he was my Jordan Catalano.

Jordan Catalano (Jared Leto) was the object of a high school crush by Angela Chase (Claire Danes) in the critically aclaimed, but short lived series My So Called Life. (edit)
The Beast and Son Of Beast are both located at Paramount's Kings Island just outside Cincinnatti. The Beast is the longest wooden rollercoaster in the world, built in 1979. While as the Son of Beast is the tallest, fastest, and only looping wooden rollercoaster in the world.

As the park's name suggests, both CBS and this park are (at the time of initial airing) sister compainies, creating fewer legal hassles in mentioning the rides by name, not to mention some shameless self-promotion. (edit)
