Twelve years, Japan was attacked by a Heterodyne- a mysterious and destructive monster from a parallel dimension. After finally defeating the Heterodyne at great cost, Japan was gripped with panic- what would they do if another Heterodyne attacked?

To that end, a giant robot known as Dai-Guard was built, but as the years passed and the Heterodyne never reappeared, Dai-Guard became the responsibility of a new company named 21st Century Defence Security, who turned the robot over to their second Public Relations Division. Dai-Guard soon became nothing more than a marketing gimmick.

Then, in 2030, the Heterodyne suddenly returned. Over the protestations of the army, 21st Century Defence Security began deploying Dai-Guard for the purpose it was meant for, with the three young office workers who were trained to pilot it now becoming heroes tasked with protecting the Earth. But saving the world just isn't as easy as it looks on TV, not when you've got to deal with damage forms and expense accounts, not to mention the army and the company's board of directors, both of whom would be happier if Dai-Guard just stayed grounded…less «

  Dai-Guard really shows a lot of potential. Unfortunately, the dramatic opening which pulled in until the very end, simply fades out at the end. It's unfortunate but that's a big problem with many shows on tv today. hide « show »

  Dai-Guard really shows a lot of potential. Unfortunately, the dramatic opening which pulled in until the very end, simply fades out at the end. It's unfortunate but that's a big problem with many shows on tv today. Great start to pull everyone in but botches it up at the end.

  Hilarious anime with a lot of heart. hide « show »

  Dai-Guard is definitely one of the most under-appreciated, yet most genius, animes of the past 10 years. Perhaps drawing at least some inspiration from the ill-fated Shinesman (another great anime series which lasted only two episodes), this series deals with the frustrations of dealing with corporate bigwigs when something serious is going on; in this case, attacks by strange creatures called heterodynes.
  
  To a smaller degree, a lot of working people have felt the same frustrations that the Dai-Guard crew felt, as they dealt with those who seem to be more concerned with paperwork than getting things done! In the beginning, it seemed as if some of corporate's concerns were merited, as the Dai-Guard crew had a very hard time controlling the giant robot and caused huge amounts of damage. But even they had to bite their tongues when it became apparent that Dai-Guard was doing a better job at defeating the enemy than even their beloved army.
  
  Dai-Guard is one of the few "giant robot" series that spends much more time focusing on character development than on action. In that regard, it may not be for everyone. For those that appreciate long story arcs with good writing and engaging characters, this is close to perfection. Not only is the show funny, but there are quite a few genuinely touching moments. I was so sad when I finally watched the last episode.
  
  All in all, if you appreciate good storytelling, by all means check this series out. You will not be disappointed. This applies to anyone who likes good TV, not just fans of anime or animated series in general. If you have watched it but didn't give it much of a chance, try it again. You may quickly find yourself as engrossed in the story as I was.
