ALLUSIONS

  • Duquesne was a familiar name on the frontier. It was the name of the French fort at the forks of the Ohio River, from which they launched their successful ambush of British General Edward Braddock's column in 1755. After it was abandoned the British established Fort Pitt and the village surrounding it, which became known as Pittsburgh. Later a University founded by the Spiritan Fathers in Pittsburgh was also named Duquesne. edit »
