Daryl Mitchell was born in the Bronx, but he was raised on Long Island. He has 3 brothers and 1 sister. His father was a Queens bus driver. He first gained celebrity as part of the rap group, Groove B. Chill. The group made a video to accompany one of their songs. The video was directed by the Hudlin brothers who went on to cast the group in the movie, House Party.
Daryl enjoyed acting so much that he gave up his rapping career to concentrate on acting. He appeared in several movies, including: 10 Things I Hate About You, Galaxy Quest, Lucky Numbers, Black Knight, and Disney’s The Country Bears.
He has also appeared in several TV shows as a regular and as a guest star.
In November 2001 while visiting relatives in South Carolina, Daryl was involved in a serious motorcycle accident. The accident left him paralyzed from the waist down. After extensive rehab, he has continued acting and has become a spokesperson for numerous charities and foundations.
He is married with 3 children.

Daryl was raised as a Jehovah's Witness. When he had his accident, he refused blood transfusions during the surgery because it contradicted the teachings of his religion.
