Alfred Hitchcock
- 9.
- Season: 2
- Episode: 1
- First Aired: 1/11/2005
Gail and Chris start out this investigation in Bodega Bay in Southern California where they give us a rundown of the reasons why they've chosen to investigate Hitchcock. Looking at various filming locations used in Hitchcock's movies including Psycho, Vertigo and the schoolhouse used in The Birds. Film Professor Geoffrey Dunn briefly takes us through Hitchcock's use of locations to create horror and suspense in the movies and his belief in
the supernatural.
Chris meets with a friend of Hitchcock's while Gail meets with Hitchcock's fans and authors. Hitchcock's friend Robert Boyle meets with Chris who talks about Alfred's fears and problems and how he translated these to the screen and how the locations he chose were intended to create a real environment inside the fictional story. Jeff Kraft and Aaron Leventhal tell Gail about the supernatural activity taking place at some movie locations, the Potter School House in Bodega Bay used in the Birds and explained this known history of paranormal activity was one of the reasons Hitchcock chose it as he was a fan and a believer in the existence of Ghosts.
Day 1 - 5:22: Gail and Chris arrive at the Schoolhouse and meet with it's owner, Leah Taylor to discuss reported activity. Leah shows them the old school bell location and how you can still hear it ring at night
(despite it being removed decades ago), Leah also explains that Hitchcock thought he saw a spirit when he visited the house. She shows Gail and Chris other things such as the music room where music is still heard amongst the laughter of children, a door that opens and closes itself. Leah explains there's a good chance of them picking up some activity when a light flickers off behind them.
,b>Day 1 - 21:36: Leah, Gail and Chris begin to take part in a shamanistic ritual which Leah believes is a good method to use to call spirits too the house. as well as music she uses crystals and picks up something,
Chris checks the same area and feels something pulling on it, Gail also feels something around them. They begin to wait in silence, focused and hoping for something else, two hours later and Gail hears the drums from the earlier
ritual beating, no one is around them and as she moves towards them the bells also jingle and a young child's voice seems to groan. Looking back at the tapes a child's figure is apparently seen over by the drums moments before Gail heard the drums...feeling whatever presence was there had now gone, they called an end to the Schoolhouse investigation.
Moving on to San Francisco and a search for another location. Geoffrey Dunn explains more about the architecture in the city and how it became an ideal
setting for Hitchcock film.
Day 2 - 10:14am Gail and Chris then meet with Jacob Millar, manager of the York Hotel where Hitchcock shot vertigo and home of the famous stairwell. They
visit Kim Novak's room in the hotel where she stayed while filming the movie and the prohibition speakeasy in the basement of the hotel where Hitchcock frequented. Jacob tells a story of Leister, a piano player who died on stage while playing and how since then piano music is heard and sightings of the old man have occurred regularly. Next they go down to the tunnels, now a laundry and storage for the hotel but previously used as secret access to the
speakeasy and the caves which no one had been to apart from their bartended just a few nights earlier. Gail decided to become the second person and brave the tunnel herself.
Day 2 - 7:16pm A tight squeeze between the pipes added in the 60's made a difficult journey which Chris couldn't make. Unable to stand up and finding it very difficult to see Gail begins to freak out. A human
sounding groan is heard. Gail proceeds down the tunnel further than Chris can fit and barely able to even crouch Gail finds steps leading to what seams like a wall with no door and no means of exit. Chris spots something along
Gail's leg and as she tried to get back out shovel scraping noises can be heard on the ground along with footsteps behind her. Gail and Chris make a quick exit from the tunnels and Gail's moans at Chris for laughing at her and making her go alone (despite the fact it was her idea)
Immediately after returning from the tunnels we head to the Speakeasy stage. Chris attempts to contact Lester using his digital recorder. While on stage he picks up several EVPs. the best one saying "I walk" Chris asks for a sign that he is present and while he feels a chill and place memory but no spirit. No Hitchcock at this location either and the journey continues.
Part 3 Moving away from movie locations Gail and Chris visit the Winchester Mystery House, only 20 minutes away from Hitchcock's home and a favourite place of his
to visit.
Day 3: 14:08 - Chris and Gail arrive at the mystery house full of doors going to brick walls, staircases going no where. Built in 1884 the house was built by the widow and heir to the founded of the Winchester Riffle
company. Mrs Winchester believed that she was cursed as a result of deaths caused by her husbands invention and she much continue building her house or she would die. She kept 22 carpenters working year round rotations for 24 hours a day for 38 years until her death of old age in 1922 at age 83.
Gail and Chris meat with Cathy Palolo, a tour guide to the house. She leads them to Sarah's bedroom where lights and flickering has occurred. then the Séance Room where rumours were that Sarah would hold a séance each
night to talk with the ghosts of those killed with the gun and they would give her designs and construction plans for the house, Cathy also points out one false door which leads to an 8 foot drop to the kitchen floor. she tells of Steven King's visit to the house and his short story based on the house. Gail and Chris go off to explore the 160 rooms in the house by getting themselves lost and attempting to find their way back to the lobby. Getting help to the front door Gail and Chris decide to come back when darkness
falls, splitting up and communicating via walkie talkie. Returning to the house at night Chris and Gail are joined by local paranormal investigators Gloria Young and Catherine Adams.
21:36 - Gail and Catherine decide to head upstairs while Chris and Gloria decide to stay on the main floor. Gail and Catherine first stop is the séance room where Gail immediately begins to feel chills, Chris and Gloria
also feel a presence in the first corridor they go down and begin to hear taping, upon prompting the spirit to give them another sign the tapping begins again. Up in the séance room Catherine encourages Gail to explain to the spirits what she's doing their and that she means them no hard. As Gail is about to speak Catherine sees a face in the window behind them - unfortunately not captured on camera. At the exact same moments downstairs Chris also see's a face in a window in the kitchen. Both attempt to radio each other and after a brief discussion the Gail's radio begins to make noises by itself and going off automatically and while Gail talks to Chris he hears a male voice coming over the walkie talkie. In separate rooms at separate ends of the house Chris asks the spirit to make a noise and someone shouts "your beautiful" over Gail's radio.
Part 4
23:19: Chris, Catherine and the rest of the investigators meet in the séance room in an attempt to contact Hitchcock or Sarah Winchester. Before long
Chris is suddenly shaken and making noises and is apparently under some kind of spiritual possession. Guided by Catherine through this the spirit answers
questions through Chris. After a short time Gail is terrified for his well being and tries to contact and halp chris come through over the spirit that had apparently posessed him. Still unable to communicate Gail and the Crew lead Chris outside where he suddenly returns to normal with little memory of what just happened. Chris was exhausted and frightened by the experience and so they call it quits for this investigation.
